taff*tune Yellow Banana finally looks alright

So its been a long time coming and an evolution thats lasted over a year and a half but its finally got to a stage that I’m happy with it.  Having started off life in the UK as a simple R32 GTSt with a Vertex kit and D-max fenders front and rear its been transformed into what you see above… (more after the jump)

The last piece in the jigsaw was a set of wheels worthy of the rest of the car. Its seen its fair share of different rims over the last year and a half from its original Grenades, to Work Emotion XT7’s and Work Emotion XD9’s to a set of Rota GTR-D’s none of which seemed to do the car justice. However in February I started the process to win and buy a set of ‘pimp’ rims on Yahoo Auctions in Japan. The painstaking wait was excrutiating.

Over six months later and the Work Rezax II’s finally arrived. Panic stations kicked in as soon as I was told that the offsets weren’t as described on the auction page, they were infact negative offsets. So the rim specs ended up being 18×9.5j et-6 and 18×11.5j et-24.. yes… eeee teee minus twenty four! Arghh.  I was worried but I knew that I had to make them fit. A drunken party at taff*tune HQ had me and my fellow Nightwalkers laughing our arses off at how much poke the rears had. Amazingly the fronts fitted nicely with a 25mm spacer, effectively making them 18×9.5j et-31!

So with the wheels sticking out madly I had to flex the rear fenders out to gain clearance. A bit of welding and some clever bracketry later and they fitted and cleared. Happy days.

It isn’t entirely finished yet as I have some refurb plans for the wheels at a later date but for now I am happy.
