| DMCC Round 3!

DMCC RD 3 took place over the weekend in Victoriaville QC. The only problem is Victoriaville does not have a race track in the town, but that was ok! DMCC, with the help of the city set up shop in of all places a snow dump (a place where snow gets put during winter). From a huge vacant lot everything was set up, from grand stands to the track itself. I was very impressed when I first saw the set up.

Day one was set up to be practice for most of the day for Pro and Pro AM drivers and then also qualification for both as well. It was a good schedule since both competitions would take place on the Sunday when there are the most fans present.

During the drivers meeting the judges mention that there was a slight bump through the track, I dont think the drivers realized how big of a bump it was until the practice session started… It sure made for some exciting visuals! Here Dave Briggs is about to lift off!

It was Pat’s first DMCC event this season in his turbo’ed F20c powered rolla as he was doing a lot of event in Formula D this year. It was good to see him back, and he is a crowd favorite with his foot to the floor driving style.

Pat was not the only rolla driver at the event. Jonathan Thiffault was also competing in his SR powered Corolla – he actually drove it too and from the track!

For Rd3 Pro Am drive Francis Tasse moved up to the pro ranks in his high HP supercharged V8 powered S14.

After his first podium of the season at the last round it was cool to see Brad Caltons car with a front bumper!

But… that didn’t last long…

Marc Landreville was sporting a new exhaust for this round – I can tell you it was very loud when pointing right at the media areas.

Marc was looking great in practice, but some engine issues took him out of the event.

Speaking of bad luck – after getting his car back together after a crash during qualifications at the last round. Driver Marc Andre Fontaine blew his tranny during practice and ended his weekend premature.

As practice went on I was really impressed with how many fans were on site, usually the practice day is less packed then the main event day.

With the qualification rounds about to start most of the teams were getting new rubber for the cars and making sure everything is ready to go.

Qualifying started great with a bunch of awesome runs. Claude Poirier is always fun to watch – his car can smoke with the best of them.

But for a few drivers it did not go so well. BFG driver Carl Nadeau was having some sort of car issues on both his runs leading to spin outs and failing to qualify. I don’t know what was wrong with his car, but it sure sounded horrible.

After missing RD2 the only female driver in the series Tania was back and doing well, but during her first run she came in a bit too hot.

Resulting in this… Her day was done.

Another crowd favorite is Dany “Babu” Bernier, a local radio host. He’s been having issues all season. He pushed a little too hard on his first qualifying run and spun. His second run was going great up until the last clip and the car spun on him.

I have to give a lot of respect to Dom Desrosiers team Drifters/Soldiers. Dom is sharing his car with a Pro Am driver who just so happened to stuff it into the wall during the Pro Am qualifying right before the Pro qualifying were supposed to start. The team managed to get the car back together in such a short amount of time it was crazy. But it let Dom be on the grid to pull off a run and qualify for the event.

Top qualifying spot went to Miro.

2nd went to Jeff Laflamme.

And 3rd went to Dave Briggs.

With qualification over it was time for bed!

On day two it was the main event day. The sun was out and there was even more people than the day before.

Right away it started getting crazy hot out – good thing the NOS energy drinks were free!

With all the spectators in their seats, or standing since the grand stands were sold out – it was time for the Top 16.

First up was Mats Baribeau against Brad Carton. It was a battle that resulted in a OMT and in the end Brad nudged our Mats to move on.

Dom was against Francis Tasse, but Francis blew some drivetrain parts right as they were leaving the line, giving the win to Dom.

The next battle was the LS vs the SR. It was a great tandem battle that had to go OMT and left Bob Patinka in his v8 240 the winner.

And other 240 vs Corolla battle was Pat Cyr versus Eric Paradis in his v8 240 vert. It was such a fun tandem to watch, with Pats crazy chase run giving him the win.

Simon Shaffner had a pretty hard crash during practice. His team got the car going and qualified. He was up against Dave Briggs, but even in his attempts to fly over the track, Dave was too strong to fight off.

JF Chiasson was strong all weekend and he had to face Claude Poirier in his beast 350z vert. The results were a bit controversial, but JF pulled off the win.

Since he qualled first Miro had a bi run into the Top 8 where he faced Brad Carton. It was a good battle but Miro pulled it off advancing into the Final 4.

After taking an easy Top 16 win Dom Desrosier had to go up against Pat Cyr. Dom put up a a good fight but again Pat’s chasing skills were too hard to beat.

Now it was time for a v8 240 battle – Bob Patinka vs Jeff Laflamme. Jeff Laflamme is one of the top drivers this season, and it showed once again when he took the win.

Dave Briggs faced off against JF Chiasson and took the win to go onto the Final 4.

This is where the action got crazy, it was Pat Cyr going up against Miro. Pat had an other amazing chase run.

Pat’s lead run was going great too until he tapped the back end of his car on the k barrier right as he was about the cross the finish – this was the result.

Miro did an excellent job of avoiding Pat’s spinning car.

Pat’s day was done..

After the track was cleaned up it was time for the next pair. Dave vs Jeff – two drivers that go all out. Dave had a great chase run which was lucky because on his lead run a wall tap broke his rear wheel resulting in this. After a OMT was called Dave managed to pull off the win, sending him to fight for first place.

With Pat Cyr out, Jeff Laflamme was awarded 3rd place, and he gave the crowd some smoke to inhale.

For first place! Miro vs Briggs. This track was really good for tight tandem runs and with the battle for first it was even better – both drivers were killing it.
