Good Thrill Hunting

All around the world, the human race find ways of occupying their mind and getting their thrills. Some do it by jumping off stuff, some sit and read, some build things, some climb things and if you’re reading this I have a good idea what you like doing. As you see there is something different about human beings that have somehow decided that getting in a car and going round a corner in the conventional way just isn’t enough. We all soon find out that it consumes us and there is nothing you can do to change it.

Drifting. It found us all somehow and at sometime but man, are we are glad it did. How did I first come across it? Well I attended the old Teesside Night Fight & Big X events in around 2007 with Jay “Jims Factory” Walker and that was it.

I knew it was something I had to be involved in one way or another and one thing in particular grabbed me more than anything at those events. The cars Jay, Paz and Dan Chapman were driving at the time, the Toyota AE86 Corolla. The community, ‘Brotherhood’ of the cars owners was what seemed apparent to me straight away and I haven’t been the same ever since.

Years down the line I started my own small time blog ‘The Corolla Brotherhood’ as a place to commit to the world wide web some of my favourite things related to the humble 86.

I also found the Corolla blog a useful place to get some of my photos out there, as I’ve been taking photos for as long as I can remember and still remains one of my first loves. The Driftworks Blog is a hive of photography talent with the likes of Mr Daniel Bridle, Ash Burrows, Al Clark & Casey Dhnaram to name a few and I’m honoured to be able to share some of my own photos amongst theirs.

Along with the usual Digital photography, Film photography has always been a big part of my life, it’s how I learnt about cameras and I’ll never stop using it.

My main film camera of choice is my trusty old Mamiya 645 which recently came with me to the Drift Allstars Wembley event where Formula D 2011 Champion Dai Yoshihara joined us to compete in the infamous DW S15. I grabbed this candid of Dai talking to Phil & Paz explaining the lines using the trusty international language of hand ‘Mime’ Drifting.

I’ve decided to leave the pleasantries till last so I didn’t bore you right at the start of the post, but my names James ‘Bamber’ Gascoigne. If you recognise my name, it is most likely because I’m the Logistics man here at Driftworks HQ and if you have received an order over the past 6 months through the DW shop it would have gone through my hands.
