So many people have been asking what we’re doing, since we recently sold the DWS15. So here you go! This is our plan: An AE86, that’s basically a NASCAR with Steering Lock underneath!
We’ve decided to show this build as a GooglePlus Album, as Facebook is getting shitter by the day, hiding our posts from people unless we ‘pay to promote’. So we thought we’d give Google a go as it seems pretty awesome!.
Just +1 Driftworks, add us to your Circles and you’ll get all updates immediately. Pics will always be up there first.
Driftworks on Google+ There are currently 14 pictures of the two cars posted there!
So yeah, don’t be mistaken in thinking this is going to just be an AE86 with a V8 in it. The idea is for it to be a clean AE86 that’s essentially a NASCAR with steering lock underneath. It will have v8, dogbox, drop gear live axle detroit locker, Ap brakes all round, and a huge amount more donated from the ASCAR.
Why not a GT86? Everyone else is doing that. It’s one of those cars that’s kind of for the big budget companies, and as we want to keep sponsorship as minimal as possible, there’s no way we could budget for one.
Why an AE86 – They are live axle, they are massively light, and kind of couldn’t be a more perfect car when we’re using the ASCAR donor.
I’m sure there will be an anti V8 vibe, and to a certain extent I agree with them being a bit soulless, but they are unquestionably the right engine for a competitive drift car, and reliability is one of the most important criteria in the project.
Our neighbours Dynotorque will be doing the vast majority of the work on the car, and once they have the two cars next door, expect things to move pretty fast
Driftworks and V8? ….end of the world is near! 🙁
it looks like the v8 in the nascar is ls based am i right?
It’s LS based in that it’s an LS1 yes 😀
ahh well dont i feel a little stupid. is it the standard 350hp and 364 ftlbs or has it been beefed up?
what about the r32?????
It’s just occurred to me (and this isn’t a criticism) but why didn’t you guys sell the R32 and get to keep the S15? Was it just down to rule changes and such or would you get less dollar for the R32?
shame what a lovely ae86 sould stick to it japanese origins.
Rory they are relatively stock internally for the ASCAR series, I believe it’s just a cam and springs, and should be around 420bhp. We’ll be changing a few bits though.
Rainis: The R32 is currently being prepped with the intention of getting it up to Anglesey for the next practice day. It’s not going anywhere any time soon, but may be up for sale in the new year once the 86 is ready.
Ali, selling the S15 helped towards the budget for the new build. You are correct the R32 is worth less.
There’s a plus sign between the ’86 and ASCAR. Why? Not going to V8 the Corolla or 4AGE the ASCAR are you?! Haha
Errmmmmmm?????? I take it you’ve not clicked through? The AE86 is having the vast majority of parts from the ASCAR fitted. Including the V8 😉
it does seem a bit of a shame to ditch the 4age! are you selling the engine etc from that?it looks mint! I bet this is quite painful for the 86 purists out there!
