Driftworks DW86 – Nearly Ready!

DW86Done1

What a few weeks! The ‘nearly’ final push has been intense, but this morning it all came together! Paul from Magic Aero had come with the first phase arches for the car, and after test fitting it all, we were still painting the panels (in the spare bathroom at DW) in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

We know this car is controversial to some, having chopped up an 86 and landed a yank motor in it. But to those people we say: don’t take life so seriously! This is a car built for fun. It’s smashed into the floor and in so many ways we have been respectful to the original style of the AE86.

As usual with anything painted black it’s really hard to put across the subtle lines. In the flesh you can really appreciate the work that Magic Aero put into the little bumper spats that bring the bumper and the arch together.

I wonder how long it’ll stay looking this clean? The car’s at Autosport now on the British Drift Championship stand if you fancy a look!

It is having a bonnet, I just can’t decide how to go about it as I don’t want a huge bonnet bulge. It will probably just have a hole in a standard looking bonnet.

We still have more to do, and definitely have more to show you in pictures, so watch this space.

Thanks to:

Dynotorque for fabricating and assembling the car and dealing with a very OCD Phil – I think they now understand what I mean when I say “it needs to be low”
Nickson Motorsport for the awesome T45 roll cage (we’ll show you this in detail as soon as the interior’s finished)
Magic Aero for spending probably 200 hours creating the best AE86 arches I’ve ever seen.
Cobra seats (again you’ll see pictures installed soon)
Jenvey who make the LS Throttle Body kit.
Paul Jackson for coming to our rescue with the paint when it all went wrong!

Looks great – can’t wait to see it go sideways! Just a thought for the bonnet you could try something like the one on the ferrari breadvan (google it) only with mesh instead.

The best, most badass V8 converted AE 86 I’ve seen to date. Wicked build. The D1 GP V8 Corolla guy’s are going to be jealous. I have a 74 te27 sr5 corolla I’m wanting to convert to V8 one day. Want to keep it all toyota though.
