Introductory Blog: Jims Factory – Yea Man!!!

Hello people just another intro here, my names Jay I’ve been knocking around drifting since “Nam’ ” well not quite but I went to my first event back in 2002 when I was still building my Corolla. I’ve seen this Drift thing grow and change over the years I’ve met a good bunch of idiots that refuse to get old and still have fun even though we’re the wrong side of 30.

I’ll do a little history of my machines. My first drifting machine was a 1984 UK Corolla, when I got it you didn’t even have the option of buying an import there was no such thing. So I started of with a gold Corolla GT coupe which looking back I should have left 100% stock and now I could have retired on the profit, but I was young and wanted a car that looked like it came from an Option Tape. I think I got the car back in 2001 and started stripping it down ready for a colour change to white. I got really carried away on this one I changed pretty much everything. It took me nearly 3 years to build it the first time but I pretty much made my perfect AE86 From it…

At first I planned on just putting it back together with a stock 4AG, then I changed to the supercharged 4AGZE, then wanted more so turbo’d it and removed all the supercharger nonsense. This engine now lives in Mr Sweep’s Corolla. Hopefully one day he will finish it, then it will run again.

Anyway that takes this car up to 2004. I then did a full season in 2005 in the Opt Auto Glym championship. In 2006 after seeing what a real Japanese AE86 can do N/A I decided to stick a 20v which I had in my shed and had bought for a KP starlet that I never finished. After about a week of messing about the 20v was in but it took me about 6 months to get it to run right. I loved the noise of the 20v and it powered me to my best ever day drifting  Night Fight at  the legendary and much missed Teeside.

Since I decided I was fed up of struggling with normal life I gave up competitive drifting at the end of 2007 I have a few BMW’s since then. I still have a Compact with an 3.2 M3 motor and I just picked up an MX5 today so I’ll show a bit of that in my next update.

Once I got to 30 I decided a normal boring job wasn’t for me so I set up my little company. I’m working in a corner at DW head quarters at the moment but the first couple of months have been promising.  So Jim’s Factory is what I do now. Its basically custom paint, I’ve been doing mainly helmets for the last few weeks but I can pretty much paint whatever you want. I’ll add a couple of pics from some people’s helmets that folks into drifting will know but if you want anything check jimsfactory.co.uk or www.facebook.com/jimsfactory

So that’s basically me if you don’t know me I’ll be the guy changing Phil’s tyres or laughing at why Bon broke down this time at whatever event.

Stay Classy San Diego

Jay
