I was talking to Bryn Alban the other night on Facebook about JZX110 Toyota Mark IIs. Since he’s selling his Bee*R R324 Skyline at the moment, something like a JZX110 might be worthy replacement.
But it made me think, why the hell does no one in the UK own one? Are there any on our shores at all?
For those of you that haven’t heard of it, the JZX110 chassis was the final generation of the Mark II series. It went into production in Japan from 2000 till 2004, and the car was available in a number of different models and factory options. But the model probably of most interest to the drifting world would be the 2.5 Grande iR-V – which had Toyota’s famous 1JZ-GTE sitting in it’s engine bay.
At the same time Toyota also decided to scrap the Chaser and Cresta variants and replace it with the Verossa. A car so ugly that there arn’t many words in the English (or Japanese) dictionary to describe how ugly it is. Whatever the designers at Toyota were smoking/injecting/eating at the time I don’t know, but Jesus Christ…
However, with a big kit and even bigger wheels they can look pretty cool in a totally wrong way.
Anyway, before this turns into some Wikipedia article, here’s some DOPE JZX110s for you to have a look at!
As with most generations of Mark II there appears to be a good amount of aftermarket support for the 110. From a visual point of view a lot of the aero kits are pretty similar in style but look fantastic. There’s a list of some of the better kits over on the JZXwiki.
Big wheels and lots of dish suit the Mark II perfectly. This flush 110 has a set of Work Varianza F2S fitted.
Aggressive sports style wheels like these Advan Model T5s also work really well. Dish isn’t always necessary!
The car seems to have a good following in Japan, JZX110s get used for all kinds of automotive hobbies and competition. Whether it’s circuit racing, drifting, drag or just being a cool street car.
Loud 1JZ noises, super low, big wheels, big kit. VIP style drift is where it’s at.
“Damn it Feels Good To Be A Gangsta”
Yuuki Takamiya’s Team Magician JZX110 is easily one of the most famous “drift” 110s out there. Type Magician JZX110 into Google and you’ll find hundreds of photos and videos of the thing.
For me though, this has to be the best looking JZX110 I’ve seen so far. It’s pretty much perfect.
In conclusion, I hope maybe this post may inspire someone in the UK to import one over. It’d be awesome to see one driving about on UK roads someday.
They ain’t cheap, but the prices are steadily coming down. So if you’ve got a bit of money burning a hole in your pocket. BUY ONE AND KEEP YOUR PIMP HAND STRONG.
I had my finger over the button to buy one about a month ago. But for once in my life common sense prevailed, and I remembered I already take up half the workshop most of the time with my dumb cars :D.
I actually prefer the look of my old JZX100 to the 110, but exactly like you, the newness, and possibly having the only one in the country made it an attractive option.
Hello, sorry for such a question where can I buy you probably have such a bumper like the picture TE37 jzx110? I with Russia we do not find such. if not difficult to write an answer vk.com/rinat86nv . thanks in advance
Dam I miss my JZX90 🙁
I would like a Verossaaaaa………. after i am done with the JZX100. They are ugly but pimp, you either like it or hate it, just like Marmite. maybe a JZX120 MARK X.
Wicked post man. Wicked post.
they are cool but why does nobody own one? if you smash the screen, its pants down, arse out for another or your car is worth jack. things like that.
Ken, is there such thing as a JZX120? The 120 has awesome potential lookswise, but was it ever made with a JZ engine?
No
That’s why the model code is not JZX120 but GRX120
That’s a good point. I’ve noticed most Mark IIs seem to be a complete pain in the arse to get windows for?
I love the look of the Verossa too, but like Kenny said, you either love them or hate them.
They do look like a big fat hippo from the front but when done well, they look unique.
For now, I think I’ll stick with my JZX100 Chaser and JZA80 Supra 😉
I’ve been trying to push these for sometime as possibly the next big thing, good to see others finally catching onto them , have been adding them to Car Of The Day thread sometimes too.
Been watching these for a while as a daily for my dad . They could be had for cheap as a competition car. If you already have a 1jz or 2jz in your shed just import a low spec for 2500 pounds and build on that , and u’ll have a pimp car seems they share a lot of parts with the Lexus is and jzx100 . Seen one used as a taxi in Dublin
This is exactly what im talking about. Good post, Iv been asking the same question now since coming across them for myself.. If cash allowed, Id have Reese send me over one stat!
Wasn’t the JZX110 only available as auto? A manual conversion is certainly possible but I guess the interior surrounding of the shifer would need to be custom made – for non comp cars obviously.
Your idea of ugly seems to encompass any sports sedan that is not designed with the square in mind, Verossa’s are just as heavy as the other JZX series sports sedans just as powerful, probably more comfortable and definitely some different to see, that is why im saving for one. and i won’t need to import because New Zealand is basically second to Japan in terms of Japanese cars availability!.
Jzx110 are pretty sweet, cheers for this! Now need more links for powarh
