What an incredible weekend – down to the wire does not even come close to describing how much work the team and everyone involved did to ensure the Driftworks S15 hit the freshly built Stowe circuit at Silverstone, and it was all worth it in the end.
No matter how far ahead you prepare for something – you can always count on it not going according to plan. The S15 has been fitted with some new goodies for 2010, and will also be receiving a new look (which you will see on a Friday blog post) – and we thought we’d also take the opportunity to increase the power. 666bhp is starting to feel a bit slow to be honest, so we’ve fitted a new ECU which we will tell you more about another time.
The car arrived last week at Pro Tuner, Greg Gush’s new mapping company based just outside Birmingham, and straight away as is the way with these things, stuff began failing – more specifically, just the CAS, which on a mid-engined S15 is in just about the worst possible place. Mapping was heavily delayed as a result, 4 days in fact, and it wasn’t until the morning of the competition we managed to get a clean noise free CAS reading, and we threw on a safe map with comparatively little power and throttle response.
Once we arrived – we were greeted by a fantastic sight – so many of our customers and our friends cars all lined up looking fantastic – it made it all worth it. I was so tired, but it was brilliant to be back out on the track, and the car was feeling as good as ever and I managed to score a P1 95/100 run. The next day was a bit of a blur, but needless to say it was a fantastic days drifting and it was great to see how the skill level had improved yet further. In the end, I made it through to the final, and boy did I have to work for it – Simon Perry in his pink R33 put up a great fight.
So a huge thank you to the British Drift Championship for having me, another thank you to everyone who was there, and the biggest thanks go to the team including Bon, Paz, Greg, and of course – Federal Tyres for providing the perfect drift tyre. See you all at JDM Trafford!
-Phil
