The first round of the 2011 DMCC series took place at the Autodrome Montmagny thats 45 minutes just out side of Quebec City. Even though there was a “pre event” at the start of the season this was actually the first time that a lot of the drivers were getting back into their cars. The crowd is always great at this track and with the great weather we had, it was even better. With pretty much every seat filled it was a fantastic way to kick off the season.
Since this was a night event there was a lot of practice time during the day for the drivers to get back into the groove of competition – and it came in handy with a bunch of the drivers suffering from some issues during the session.
The only Female Pro driver in DMCC Tania decided to take her GTO out into the woods on her first run of the day.
It was local favourite Jeff Laflammes first official round as a DMCC pro driver and he was on fire all day.
A run in with a K wall during practice almost took him out of the event, but his crew were able to get the car back up before qualifying started.
Marc Andree Fontaine was back with his “new” skyline after his old one was pretty much totalled in a big wreck during the 5th round of competition last year.
Qualifactions went great and when it was all said and done Dave Briggs not only scored the #1 qualifiying spot but also broke the record for fastest entry speed.
The Top 16 battles were great as always and had the crowd going crazy. Here, American Miro Ovcharik chases down Matts Baribeau and his big 4 door. It was a close battle but in the end Miro got the win.
During the battle with Brad Carton and Simon Shaftner, Brad suffered a mechanical issue with his handbrake and cause him to fly right into the guard rail – it was one of the most violent crashes I’ve ever seen.
The Final 4 came down the Dave Briggs, Jeff Laflamme, Miro Ovcharik and Evan Tuerck ( Ryan Tuerck’s twin brother). Miro took up his fellow American Evan to secure the 3rd place podium spot.
During the battle for 1st it was Dave Briggs against Jeff Laflamme. It was a tight battle but on Dave’s chase run he got a little too close to Jeff and bumped him. It ended up going to a one more time but after the bump Dave’s steering rack broke so he had to forfeit and give the win the Jeff .
go miro go
Miro will be doing the full DMCC east season too.
