Round two of the DMCC series took place over the weekend at the Circuit I-Car. It’s a track that is built on a airport runway that is no longer in use so the entire track is made out of concrete. It makes for a different atmosphere since it’s surrounded by the old airport and cargo planes still fly out from there you get the added sight of sometimes seeing planes take off…
This is the second time that DMCC comes to I-car and even though the facility is amazing it seems that we can never get lucky when it comes to the weather conditions. Last year we had a freak storm that destroyed pretty much all of the easy up tents that were on site. This time around we had on and off rain all day that made conditions for drivers/fans and media less than enjoyable.
As practice was about to begin the rain let up and the drivers started to line up on the grid to get practice under way.
Eric Paradis made a custom roof for his convertible s13 in hopes to stay dry.
Claude Poirier in his beast of a 350z was focused and ready to test out the wet track.
Even though the rain had stopped the track was still very wet and in some places the puddles were more like little lakes. Dom Desrosier looked like he was having fun drifting into the puddles – a good way to clean out all the grease from under the car.
With the track being made completely out of concrete it was very slippery with the wet conditions. It took a lot of the drivers a few laps of the course to get used to slippery conditions without spinning out. I was told that some sections of the track were like driving on ice. On the plus side if you were able to hold on you could get some real crazy angle as Dave Briggs shows here.
A big shocker for me was to see Brad Carton back after pretty much destroying his car during the top 16 in round 1.
We were lucky enough to have the track start drying out. It was nice to finally see some tire smoke.
We even started having some good tandem runs. Round 1 winner Jeff Laflamme gets up on Babu’s LS powered G35!
But the joys were short lived as it started to rain yet again. So it was time for the umbrellas to come back out.
And puddle drifting…
The rest of the practice session pretty much went the same… It would rain, then stop, and then rain some more. The changing track conditions claimed its first victim – Matts Baribeau who got into a fight with the wall and lost. He was ok, but the car was too crooked to keep going for the rest of the event.
Most drivers were taking it easy during practice because it was so slick but we still had a bunch of really nice tandem runs.
With practice over it was time for qualifying. All the drivers really pushed hard, sometimes too hard and a few drivers spun on both their qualifying runs taking them out of the show. Babu was one of those unlucky drivers – pulling off some crazy entries but not able to hold it for the entire track.
Spinning out is unlucky but it could be worse. Marc Andre Fontaine was really aggressive…
And this was the result..
Marc Landreville was killing it all day, it didn’t matter if it was wet or dry he was putting his car in all the right places and was initiating faster and further then anyone else… He not only took the top qualifying spot but also set the fastest entry speed of 115kph!
With all the qualification scores totalled up it was time for top 16 and wouldn’t you of guessed, it started raining, HARD.
Despite the rain the tandem battles were great! First up was Bob Patinka vs Dom Desrosier. The action was intense and it even went to a one more time but Bob pulled out it.
Next up was BFG driver Carl Nadeau in his V8 M3 vs Simon Shaffner in his S13. Simon spun on his lead run giving the win to Carl.
After his win Bob had to take on Marc Landreville. It could of been because of the intense rain but a spin on Bobs part gave the win to Marc.
Former BFG driver Claude Poirier went up against American driver Miro. Claudes car has a lot of power but it did not help him in the rain. After a one more time call Miro was given the win.
Jeff Laflamme had a bi run so his first battle was against Carl Nadeau, it looked like it was going to be a great battle but Carl came in a little too hot and slide his car into the wall.
Next up was Dave Briggs and Brad Carlton – it was a close call but Brad got the win!
Now into top 4 the action was getting more intense. It was a battle of the pink drift machines, Miro and Marc Landreville. Two very experience drivers but this time Miro got it.
Next up was Brad Carlton against Jeff Laflamme – two drivers that drive balls out! The action was close a little too close and because of some contact Jeff got the win sending him to the battle for 1st place.
With that Brad went against Marc Landreville to fight for 3rd place. This was some of the best action of the night – with tight runs on both parts and even contact between the cars in not only one run but in the One more time run aswell. It was a tough call but the win went to Brad.
Battle for 1st place was between Miro who got 3rd place at the last round and Jeff Laflamme that won the last round. The two V8 powered 240’s went at it. Both runs were clean and almost uneventful but Miro had the edge on his chase run getting him his first victory in DMCC.
1st: Miro
2nd: Jeff Laflamme
3rd: Brad Carton
4th: Marc Landreville
Despite the rain the event was a great success. I was impressed with the amount of spectators that stayed considering the pouring rain. The next round will be taking place in Victoriaville. It’s a new stop for the DMCC series and with a new track it should be very exciting!
Stunning pictures dude!
Thank you!
Yeah man! There’s some excellent shots there. Rain normally makes for crappy photography, but these look really exciting! Thanks for sharing Jeremy 🙂
