It’s quite well specced for a van – electric windows and mirrors, aircon, airbag, CD player, the usual stuff you’d expect in a car really. Plus basically a Polo interior, so it doesn’t really feel like you’re in a van.
MK4 golf PD110 spec (bigger turbo, larger nozzles, re-circ system blocked off). This was done by one of the previous owners. However, in order to fit the larger turbo, the rear engine mount was hacked about – it subsequently failed within a week of me buying the van, dropping the engine and causing me to have a new sump every couple of weeks, plus numerous other issues, until I realised what was wrong!! I have since spent well over £1000 addressing the problem. The engine mount has been mended and strengthened.
I have also had a brand new Forge actuator fitted (when the engine mount failed, the engine rested on the actuator, putting a hole in it!).
It still has an intermittent boost problem - I will have this fixed if nobody wants the van at a much reduced price first.
Exterior:
15x7 ET18 white wheels, with Toyo T1-R tyres all round.
Front coilovers
Rear axle flip
Smoked indicators
Matching rear lights (no fog lights, both sets of lights included for MOT)
MK3 Front arches for clearance of the wheels
A few choice stickers.
Generally very good condition throughout, although there are one or two scuffs as you might expect to find on a 120k van, including one caused by me when I bumped into a plastic bollard at 2mph in the snow!
Interior:
Polo seats, door cards, handbrake and gear knob (plus originals)
Pioneer CD headunit
Rear floor cover
I bought the van in September, used it for its intended purpose (transporting my pit bike) once and I’ve been driving round in it thinking ‘why dont I have a nice car instead?’ ever since. It returns very good mpg - I’ve been getting over 40mpg doing mostly short journeys. On a longer run you should see 50mpg no problems.
I gave the previous owner my ’99 Alfa GTV and £850, which I reckoned was about £2500. I have since spent well into 4 figures sorting the engine mount and all the subsequent problems caused by it breaking. All work done by Challenge Motor Co (independent VAG specialists in Cheltenham). The car is still not 100% (I can hear the turbo spooling up but it has hardly any power), but I intend giving it to Challenge to have the problem sorted out, if nobody buys it straight away. It also needs a new internal headlight switch.
In it’s current condition I will take £1500 ono, in anticipation of the problem costing about £500 to sort out, although it may well be far less. I would be making a horrendous loss at this price, considering what it cost me, but Im sick of it now and just want a car again as soon as possible!
Here’s some photos taken by the previous owner, it looks exactly the same now, just half an inch higher at the front.
