Right so guys, about 5 years ago I bought myself a 87 Laurel and the plan with it was to have it as a weekend car. Great plan until when I started to strip it down and I discovered that it was pretty much red rotten with rust and I abandoned it. I was fairly gutted as the car had the voice warnings which was awesome IMO but was a fail in the fact that it was an automatic and had a live axle. So recently I got married and my wife said I should treat myself to something new, so I spotted not 1 but 2 C32 Laurel's for sale and since my A31 Cefiro is off getting bodywork done and winter is fast approaching I bought them.
The silver one was originally fitted with the L24E engine but someone swapped it for a 2.8L diesel engine and is automatic. She's a non runner however the bodywork is absolutely spot on. Iv searched and so far from what I can find there is no repair work to be done to the chassis at all. Its an SLX model, comes with front fog lights in the bumper and one of the things that I love about it is that the car is fitted with a digital dash.
The gold one still has the L24E engine fitted and is a manual. The clutch pedal was on the floor so i put fresh fluid in and bled out the system, fitted a new battery and she fired up straight away. The chassis overall could do with some work as there is quite a bit of substantial rust on it. This one's a SGX model, has a nicer interior, air con and has a towbar.
Both cars have independent rear suspension and have the voice warnings which IMO is an absolute win (and is also the only reason my wife didnt have an issue with me buying them). The overall plan here is to restore the silver one using the best parts from the two cars and have it as the weekend car. Im at a loss as to what Ill do with the gold one as I think ill be pushing my luck trying to have 2 Laurels and a Cefiro aswell as the daily workhorse. Ill cross that bridge when I come to it.
Anyway here's some pics to keep you entertained.
