Jaguar Sovereign 4.0 Automatic
This car was bought a few weeks ago specifically to ferry a group of us to a car show. Now that the show has been and gone, the Jag is surplus to requirements and, as much as we'd like to keep her, none of us have room. It was purchased from a long-standing member of the Jaguar Enthusiasts Club and the condition reflects that.
It has MOT and tax until October 2009.
The car is in very good condition for a 19 year old Jag, but has suffered from corrosion in what I'm told are the 'usual places'. When we got it, the car had quite rough paintwork and clearly hadn't been polished for some time. It has now had a full exterior valet (including clay bar, several machine polish passes and a coat of wax) and the paintwork has come up brilliantly. Unfortunately, it's now covered under a layer of dirt again, but a quick wash would bring the finish back.
Oil pressure seems good (see the photo of the dash, taken at idle). The battery is about 18 months old. The car starts first time without a problem. The engine bay is very clean although there is some corrosion coming through on the inner wings (see photos).
The car pulls well and the gearbox works perfectly. The handbrake is rubbish, which I'm told is a Jag trait, but maybe an adjustment would help.
There is a noise from the rear axle which changes with speed (and causes a bit of a vibration when off throttle). The previous owner told us that he had the diff changed, which made no difference to the noise, and consulted a Jag expert who told him it was no cause for concern and a common feature of this model which can go for years without getting any worse. If you really wanted to get rid of it, complete Sovereign axles come up on eBay often enough for around £100.
Again, according to the previous owner, the only work needed at MOT was a new track rod end. Since passing that MOT, the car has covered around 800 faultless miles (600 odd of them by us!). I have the previous MOT which shows that the car has only covered around 9000 miles in 12 months to October 2008.
There is a warning light on the dash for the ABS so that needs looking at. The aircon doesn't work but possibly just needs a regas. There is a leak from the power steering; which needs topping up every few weeks.
The alloys are really past their best and need a refurbishment. They're not particularly kerbed, but the finish is flaking off quite badly. Tyres are very good. The spare is inflated and with a legal tyre, but is a different style wheel to the four on the car.
Unfortunately, about a fortnight before we got the car, somebody drove along the side of it, creasing both passenger side doors and damaging the paint somewhat. As part of the valet, most of the minor scratches have been taken out which makes it look much better. However, it could be further improved; either with a touch-up stick or a full-on bodyshop repair. The previous owner got a quote of around £300 to repair it properly. You may be able to pull the dent out somewhat, but we haven't bothered.
Inside, all electrics work (and there are a lot of them): seats, windows, multi-function computer, cruise control, remote boot release, 3-position reading lights in the rear, total closure remote alarm, immobiliser, the excellent stereo (including big speakers under the rear seats)... They all work perfectly.
The car also has a towbar with both caravan and trailer electrics fitted. Not owning either, I can't confirm whether they work properly, but they have dust covers so it's a possibility.
I have been as honest as possible with the description, but please bear in mind that I am not a mechanic and the car is 19 years old and was made in Coventry! If you have any questions or would like any specific photos, please ask; I will do my best to answer you. It is sold as seen.
The car is priced to sell, we need it gone ASAP.

We're looking for £500 ono. It is also on eBay but I'll pull the auction if necessary.
Yes, this is a copy 'n' paste of the eBay ad!
