WORKin it!
I originally wrote this ad months ago but didn’t want to sell it, I’ve recently moved back to my parents, I own three cars and I’m bored of rowing with my dad about the car situation almost everyday. So if nothing else I can at least say it’s been advertised!!
I bought it as a daily driver coming up to two years ago, previously owned by heroes such as Jase and Docwra.
Back in March I bought a pair of brand new tyres instead of the normal part worns, the next day there were a couple of bangs and then rattling/grinding/banging noises. I thought it was diff related at first and was so pissed after buying new tyres I abandoned it at my parents and impulse bought a Saab my mate put up for sale the next day.
I ended up driving the beemer back home one night and the noises stopped. A few months and several hundred miles and it’s still noise free. I think the problem was/is backplates/handbrake related but you’d be hard pushed to notice if I hadn’t mentioned it.
.
Apart from the that issue it’s pretty sound mechanically AFAIK, and the handbrake was shit anyway! It’s good fun to drive, pokey, the gearbox is sweet and everything feels pretty tight. I even checked for a Schnitzer quick shift but it looks standard. It’s reasonably low, also first time I’ve driven a car with a welder but apart from extra tyre wear it’s been fine for daily driving. Also gave amazing grip in snow. I was so impressed with it my original plan was to get an e36 M3 saloon when the time came to upgrade it.
I’ve since spent £900+ fixing the Saab and I can’t take that much of a hit selling it straight on and keeping this.
I’ve done 10k miles since owning it. In that time I’ve:
• Replaced passenger front window regulator. Genuine BMW part fitted by bodyshop.
• Replaced N/S rear light as it had cracked and let water in which was messing with the electrics. Genuine BMW part.
• Replaced old angel eyes as they caused my headlights to fail, replaced with SSDD angel eyes.
• Replaced thermostat 18 months ago as car was struggling to get up to temp, fitted by a BMW specialist, they also fitted a new viscous fan coupling or something.
• Replaced airbox hose as it had split. Genuine BMW part.
• Fitted Pipercross mesh filter 5/6 months ago.
• Had no rear speakers so I’ve put adapter pods and 6x9s in the back.
• Fixed the central locking, its also running a toad/alarm immobiliser but no paperwork.
It has the 18 button onboard computer. Electric sunroof and all four windows work, electric mirrors.
Good stuff.
Here's a couple of pics from when I got it, private plate is now gone. I'll get some proper pics as Jason managed to take very flattering photos.
With the coilovers, wheels and Schnitzer bits it looks good from 20 yards but its tatty close up, awesome colour in the sunlight but again paint isn’t good. Saying that if I hadn’t spent so much fixing the Saab I’d have sold that straight on and kept this. I really rate this car, if it had a mint shell I’d have kept it forever.
The car is now on 138,000ish and still in use. Replacement engine was 50k when I bought it, so now on 60k, no paperwork to prove but I trusted the previous owners. Engine pulls strongly, it’s smooth and quiet. I haven’t bothered servicing it but it still doesn’t use oil/water. I think it has an airleak, idle is a bit rough. It’ll stall occasionally coming to a stop when revs are dropping.
So for anyone interested in buying it’s a case of sort the backplates/handbrake if you want or chuck an e46 subframe on it? And maybe chuck new oil/plugs in. Or buy it, do nothing and you’ve got a fun daily drifter.
The Nissan went from being a daily to doing 300 miles in a over a year, that’s how much I liked driving this car. It’s been the best car I’ve ever owned but it’s time to move on.
I wasn’t sure how to price it but after looking at others on here I’ll say £1475 ono. It's awesome and I’d rather keep it somewhere else and use it for the odd practise day than sell it for nothing so not interested in timewasters or lowball offers.
Car located ten minutes from Heathrow.
