Bought this thing back in April after my first 13 failed its MOT. It's annoying me now, sat on my drive making the place look untidy, so I'm bunging it up for sale.
It's a red 1998 VW Polo with the mighty 1.4l engine producing a spine-smashing 60hp on 117k miles. It's slow, but it was netting me nearly 50mpg nursing it to work and back, 100 mile round trip!
tbh it has no other redeeming features other than being exceptionally good on fuel and costing peanuts to run. It's just had new discs and pads up front less than 500 miles ago, so one less thing to worry about for the next million miles or so. Also new mid exhaust section and new HT leads.
MOT expires May 2011, and tax is up in November.
The outside is somewhat battered tbh. It's been dropped off a kerb by a previous owner which accounts for the rather large dent over the exhaust. There are a variety of scrapes, dings, and bashes on most panels but it's generally pretty solid. My dad had a bash at getting rid of any rusty bits and they have since been covered in red lead to stop them rusting further. Just had the passenger side mirror replaced, which was held on with duck tape. Doesn't look quite so pikey now.
It has a full service history as well. Well, sort of. It's overdue the last service as I just haven't had the space or time to deal with it while reshelling my stupid S13.
Would make an ideal first car for your sprog if they're due a driving test soon, or a cheap run around which you won't need to spend more than about 0.1s worrying about each day as you fall into the drivers seat in a semi-depressed state.
Price is £650. Post questions in this thread rather than PM'ing me as it saves me answering the same question several times over
Summary so you can avoid reading my waffle:
1998 VW Polo 1.4 CL 117k miles
Red
MOT May 2011
Tax November 2010
Electric windows
New front brakes
New mid exhaust section
New HT leads
FSH
I insured this thing for £500 TPFT as a 21 year old with no NCB and 3 years driving experience, which I thought was pretty good to give some of you an idea.
