1jz-gte auto soarer price check

Afternoon all,

I'm in the market for a 1jz-gte automatic soarer. I can't seem to find anything that really gives any real indication as to what the going rate currently is for one.

Ideally I'm looking fairly stock engine wise, body can be stock or modified that doesn't really bother me. Paint doesn't have to be the greatest. I'm looking for one thats fairly solid.

I'm seeing some that have been for sale over the last 12 months that have been around the £3000 mark, and some for sale now that are basically project cars sitting at the £5000 mark with sluggish gearboxes, plastidipped paint etc.

Is this generally what they're going for now? The idea is it will become a project anyway, but I'd like to be on a level where I can be confident I'm not overpaying for somebody else's incomplete one.

Thanks!

Anywhere between £3500 to £5000 is a good shout really, for the upper figure youd expect it to be a newer vvti 1jz auto with the facelift bumpers etc... £3000/£3500 would likely buy you a non vvti project that would need a good going over, service, brakes etc... there is a bayside blue soarer vvti auto 1jz currently for sale on fb market place which I vouch for, drop me a pm if you need anymore help

Thanks Tom, is that the one at £5250 in the west midlands? Ideally I was looking somewhere around £4000/£4500.

The £5000 one I've seen is plastidipped over what looked like lovely red paint, believe it was built around '93, has around 140k miles (232000km I believe it was). Sluggish gearbox (says it's just needing a service), bodywork isn't the best but there's no rust. I'd rather it be mechanically sweet and rust free than a show pony. Dash is temperamental when cold etc.

Thats the one I guess it wouldnt hurt to make him a strong offer? and see what is said?

I know the car you mention I owned it a couple of years ago its not a bad car at all really, got some nice mods coilovers were brand new, its not rusty and mechanically good i was going to drift it but ended up selling, gearboxes are easy to get hold of and very cheap Ive given a few away so dont let that put you off, I know the guy has just bought a gs300 so he will be keen to sell again make him an strong offer?

That's great to hear. Perhaps it would be worth me playing with numbers a bit on paper and seriously reconsidering where I stand with the money I want to spend. Seems to be a small world with soarers.

In your experience, what are the 1js like? I hear great things about them and see that a few people around the globe daily them. I had an SR before and that thing was horrendous for something caving in every time it was driven regardless of the money thrown at it(I'm genuinely convinced that thing was a lemon, but even so). The idea is that it isn't going to be a daily, but I know full well I will end up driving it more than the daily which is mainly why Im really not bothered about bodywork and want to stick to it being as stock engined as possible.

It does have some nice bits on it which is great to see. Nice to hear somebody can vouch for it too. The plastidip isn't an issue to me, that would be coming off, and worst case if the paint is knackered then a friend of mine has a compressor and some paint guns. I plan to manual swap eventually, but I'd rather chuck the extra cash at ensuring what I have will survive a spirited drive first. If the gearboxes are cheap and that one is knackered, then that's a bonus too.

Certainly would be work out your plans and what you want to end up with also, plenty of ways to go manual

1jz engine is great, they are getting on a bit now so do make sure its in good health but generally they are pretty bomb proof, the stock twins arent uncommon to blowing if pushed too hard, plus they are nearly 30 years old... but yeah easy to get some decent power out of it with basic mods equally the 1uz isnt a bad engine just quite heavy car to have that engine and its not as easy to get power from being n/a. Ive bought some proper hanging looking soarers and found the engines have been absolutely fine!

Yes i think the previous owner may have been on here it certainly has been drifted in the past, the paint is actually pretty good its been resprayed red was originally dark green as most are it just needed a good machine polish tbh, but yeah it drove nice and felt solid, just keep some money back for the other bits...

The aim of the game is to have a reliable, fun road car. I would be swapping the twins out for a single fairly early doors (off the top of my head, your ex soarer already has a single anyway). I'm not interested in pushing big power. Maybe 350 is all I'm interested in, perhaps 400 at an absolute push. I believe the bottom ends are good for about 600 on a stock 1j?

Manual is something that will happen a bit further down the line, once I'm happy that the engine doesn't need masses of money to keep it reliable. Somebody was telling me that RX8 gearboxes are a fairly common swap? Perhaps with it having been drifted, it's just been dipped for easy repairs after a tap or something. Provided I can get it off fairly easy, and it's straight, that's fair game.

Prices range so much at the moment, I paid about 3K 2 years ish ago for a stock auto non vvti soarer. But in perspective prob 8years ago paid 600quid for one with a damaged front wing.

Most people only want a soarer for the engine to be honest. The only engine i can find on ebay at the moment is up at £2500 id say in current climate £1300-1800 is probably more reasonable.

I havent heard of people using RX8 gearboxes on JZ's but theres bellhousings for everything these days. From memory the RX8 and the S15 gearbox were similar and with it being like an SR gearbox i wouldnt push alot of power on it.

500bhp is easily achievable on a 1JZ from slapping a turbo on and some injectors, how long it will last at that is another question depending on the cars life etc.

depending on what your after i have a project Soarer, caged with 1JZ and R154 loads of bits that im going to relist shortly if its something your interested in drop me a message.

It's a shame, that definitely seems to be the case. Soarers are cool cars.

The RX8 boxes weren't something I'd heard either until I was told about them. I thought most went down the R154 or BMW box route. He did mention that they weren't particularly great for high power, but should be fine around where I'm wanting it to sit. From what I recall from having an s-chassis, they're good for about 400?

I know the JZ platform are pretty good for power. I've always been a bit die hard nissan, but a 1j has always been a secret want of mine and with the soarer being a bit of a guilty pleasure too. The JZ loyalists in our group of regulars have been trying to convince me to go JZ for quite some time haha!

It could potentially be something I'm interested in, it depends how much of a project it is really, and ultimately how much.
