Hello my friends. First of all, im noob in mechanics. Im starting now in drift world. I have a 320i 2013. And i want tô know if you could help. I wanna make a swap, put a 1jz gte vvti, in my 320i. I've got a n20b20, 4 cylinder, but i think the 1jz fit in my engine bay. So im from brasil and nobody in the bmw fórum Brasil, support me in this swap, they just said im crazy. In some way, they right, here everything is expensive. Do you think that the swap can be done or not? And what is the difficults that i will face in this swap ?

I know we got to consider a lot of things tô do a engine swap. Transmission, steering rod, engine bay, eletronic and etc. My biggest question is the transmission. My transmission is automatic and i wanna know if i can keep the original or i will have tô swap tô? I just want tô swap because i really like the JZ sound and i want work on this car, make the car unique. Right now, i Just want a street car. But in the future, i want a drift build.

Im dont much about mechanic as you all can see. Im sorry if said something wrong.

What’s your budget because there’s no point in going into all the details unless it’s a viable option.
Yes it can be done and has been done many times.

So...the engine will cost me 5000 USD ( engine+freight+taxes ) and i have more 20.000 USD to spend with the Project. Can be done with 20.000 or i have to save more money? If i have tô save, how much ? Or being more direct, how much i will spend with the swap ?

I plan on doing this exact swap myself on my 320d e90.

You will need an e46/e90 320d manual box with adapter plate for the 1jz, luckily those aren’t too expensive, engine fits just fine apparently, only issue is being able to get the bmw ecu to work with the toyota for the speedo, temp and so on which isn’t really possible. You can however just run the engine purely off the toyota ecu and it will work.

I’ve seem speedo and rpm working on a swap in thailand on youtube, but no information on how they did it but those are possible to make work clearly.

I think with a 20k usd budget you should be able to have everything done.

I saw the video on YouTube, the guy make everything work, and his transmission is automatic, just like mine, that why im asking if i can keep the original transmission. And is a BMW e90.

When you say manual box, you're talking about the transmission? Sorry, man, here in my country, the name of things is much diffrent. Is a mess. Sorry if im asking dumb things.

I really wanna thank you for answer.

It might be possible to make the transmission work but I haven’t seen it done before with an automatic one, I think it would be more expensive too. How software and things would work I’m not sure, it would be complicated for sure.

BMW e90 use zf transmissions so a custom adaptor plate would be needed, where as bmw 320d e46 adaptor plates can be bought without having to go custom.

It would be better to sell your automatic transmission and buy a manual, manual will be cheaper and you make more money from the automatic on top!

Yeah I meant transmission for manual box, I can understand, no problem at all!
