Before this issue i drove the car into the car running perfect when it was bone stock engine (turbo, injectors) on emu.

I pulled the cams and head to clean, install new gaskets and install arp headstuds.

The car fires up and idles good, and revs fine. But when i attempt to drive it, it falls on its face sounds like bubble wrap. I went through my log and found everything is fine, all values match target values EXCEPT the vvti solenoid cam angle value. The value is always in the negative degree (timing retard) . The target is always in the positive (timing advance).

First thing I’d check your coil pack clips they are shit and break, second is check the leads again brittle. Then possibly the spark plugs and third you had the head off so I take it you had the rocker cover off. I had the same problem and mine was my rocker covers had cracked and was seeking oil into my plugs which was causing me to miss like fuck when on any sort of acceleration. Changed the covers and gasket and plugs and presto my 1j is a dream again
