So its my first time at drift land on Sunday and really my first propper go at drifting .....and I was wondering if I'll NEED a hydro? ....I don't have one ATM and I've managed to get the back end out easily enough with just a clutch kick (its a stage 2 s13 so its got enough ooomph to break traction)..... I realise a good working hydro would help for faster entrys but being my first time I'll be happy enough at just not destroying my car .

What the hell do you need a hydro for? Arghhhh! S13 has one of the best stock handbrakes in the world!

And having a hydro does NOT make for fast entries. Completly the opposite, no idea whose been putting these ideas in your head but go and poke them in the eye.

Go up there and enjoy yourself. Don't even touch the handbrake unless your about to crash

I clutch kick and flick entry almost every time at Driftland, try and only use the handbrake for small corrections and to save you. Isn't s13 hand takes half decent anyway as they have shoes and stuff?

This ^^ A flick and a clutch kick will make your driving a damn slight more interesting and aggressive. So many people just do boring hydro entries and just power out of the corner, thats not what its about dude.

Stock handbrake on a UK S13 is pretty decent unless you've stretched the cables or worn the shoes down, so could be somewhere to look if yours isn't that great. I've only gone hydro in my PS as my cables were stretched, shoes were worn and new hubs don't accommodate the backing plate :)

Well good news there :) apart from the last guy who I think got a bit confused haha
Really looking forward to it now

Just try enjoy yourself and don't get to angry when you struggle to get to grips with it, we've all been there so chill. oh and try not bend your car =D

Haha yeah I'm not expecting anything great but just to learn the car a bit better oh and not come back with it in a million pieces lol

I've had a hydro in one car, preferred the handbrake most the time. 13's lock really well.

I remember parking the car up somewhere and some lads walk up going 'oo look a drift car' ( I know..) anway, one looked through the window and went 'nah, not a drift car, there isn't a hydro'

facepalmed so hard I K.o'd myself. Just being conscious enough to watch them drive off in their Saxo.

i ran a stock s14 handbrake for years, if you haven't got it save up for a proper diff ;)

How did you get on?

How did you get on?

As luck would have it it had been raining most of the night so the track was pretty wet (because scotland) so i had no problem getting the back end to start stepping out.

As for the tighter part we bodged a nail between the handbrake button and handle to act as a sort of "fly off" and it worked brilliantly!

By the end of the day i was managing to link up 3 corners (all be it not at excessive speed) but felt like i was really getting to learn how the car handled and how it would react.

Obviously i span out countless times but as was nearly everyone else everyone just had a great attatude to it all.

My bog standard 149k ca18det internals took a solid 3 hours of limmiter bashing and spinning out before finally developing a rather heafty bottom end knock with forced me to ritire from the session.

But even ending up leaving with a broken engine i still had the best time....and the ca18s currently going to be getting forged so i can get back out asap.......the bug has wel and truely been caught!.
