It's not a crap system! What makes you say that?

The transponder in the key sends the code to the body computer, if it's right, it unlocks the engine ECU.

Normally it's the transponder chips which fail. A new plip from Renault is normally between £60 and £80.

There's two versions of plip, one is ordered by chip number, so will work out of the box. Problem is it'll take 5 days to come from Renault France.

The other is known as a virgin plip. Meaning your local dealer should keep it in stock, but it will need programming to the vehicle.

I'd say it's about 90% chance it's the plip faulty, 7% the transponder ring (on the ignition barrel), and 3% it's the body control module.

The body computers do fail on these, but normally the fault affects the lights/indicators/wipers/central locking.

Glad to help :smokin:

its the key i was told, and renault can do it there and then (but has to be booked in as needs to be programmed to the car)

but all i do is turn the key and let the engine crank once, turn key off then back on and never failed to start lol

Good luck with WBAC.com, they'll probably offer you £200  They offered me £700 for my 540i  And now I get emails everyday from them asking if I'm ready to take thie offer.

How much did Renault quote to fix the immob fault out of interest?

Will this sit at 85/90 on the motorway quietly and comfortably without feeling like its gonna fall apart?

Cheers
Ed

Hi she's happy at 80 shel do 90 easily but seems to like 80 lol webuyanycar offered me 1200 with dents etc listed so that's were I got the price to sell private for.
Renault didn't give me a quote just said it needed new transponder in the key which was just over 100 programed, but as I said I didn't bother as once u know how to start it's never failed to start, just when u turn key to accessory some time the imobilizer light flashes, so turn key off, back on and vavavoom she's away lol

Had the same issue with imobiliser on a kangoo 02.

renault even said it was the imob too along with AA guy. got a new ECU + key.......

turned out to be the starter.

Ye the conections on the starter can corrode supose I should check that really just don't see how the starter would make the imobilizer light flash?

Any how any one want this car or eBay/wbac.com it is lol
