I’m after a change
I bought this car with a few known issues, the idea was to fix her up and use her over winter. Unfortunately she was breathing heavily and the decision was made to replace the engine. I looked at other VTS/GTI lumps but they were all high mileage so I spoke to my mate who own French Sport Tuning. He recommended using a C2 engine as its same bottom end but uses a big valve head and most likely to find a low mileage lump.
I bought an engine from a 2004 C2 GT and the plan was hatched. The C2 engine has the big valve head (compared to the VTS) domed pistons but is let down by a mild cam. The engine was built for midrange and not top end and max power is 5,800rpm compared to the VTS’s 6,600rmp (limits at 7,250) The engine was stripped and the head was removed. The inlet side of the head was drilled, tapped and studded to accept the VTS inlet (C2 is restrictive). FST fitted my VTS cams, springs and retainers. The springs are changed due to the C2’s not being able to cope with the VTS’s higher rev range. The VTS thermostat, flywheel, clutch and sump were retained also the exhaust manifold due to the C2’s being restrictive.
So in summary, it’s a 44k engine with a full top end rebuild with the benefit of the big valve head and better cams. In comparason the C2 VTS has 125bhp (better cam than GT) but the saxo VTS cams have a better lift and duration so in theory she has a around 135bhp with the exhaust.
All sed in the rebuild were genuine Citroen parts with receipts
Head gasket
Head bolts
Exhaust gasket
Timing belt and kit
Hand brake cable
Water outlet housing
BMW approved engine sealent
Also fitted front brake pads and drop links
2002 52 Citroen Saxo VTS
108k, new engine fitted at 107k
Recon clutch
K&N panel filter - got a 57i to got with it
Magnex stainless system
Magnex de-cat
Drilled front discs
Recon Alternator
Recon axle 09
Both drive shafts 09
Powerflex gearbox mount
Other than that its how it left the factory.
Interior is in very good condition, body work is almost excellent and in a desirable colour.
Looking for a p/x, I do a lot of motorway driving and this isn’t really suited. £1700 ono
I’ll give her a clean and take some recent pics.
Bad points
Advised on o/s/f ball joint on last MOT
Scratch on the tailgate
Headlight bracket broken, hit a pigeon, light is secured with a make shift bracket.
I’ll take some pics tomorrow.
