2nd drift car/upgrade

Hi, I'm new to this forum and relatively new to drifting! Currently I have a 1997 mazda miata m edition(US). I've been drifting for around a month whenever I can and I feel I've progressed a little bit lol.

Around June I'm going to have around 15,000$(~10,000£) and I figured if I keep practicing by then I will have hopefully improved enough to either get a new car for a better platform and upgrade that or keep my car and upgrade it.

So basically would it be better to sell the miata and get a different car to turn into a dedicated drift car or to turn my miata into a dedicated drift car.

Also if I get another car, what car would be good and what upgrades should I do to it. If I keep the miata what upgrades should I do to that. I am capable of doing some work on my, but nothing super major like fabrication for an engine swap lol, but I am able to install a turbo kit, at least I hope haha, but my step dad is a mechanic so he'd be able to help with anything more difficult.

The one other thing I had on my mind was possibly selling the miata and using the money to buy another miata that's 2nd gen so I don't have the pop up headlights and one with a hardtop. It just popped into my head because I was looking at miatas on classifieds for my area and saw I could get a 2002 miata with a hardtop(base trim) for about the same I would sell my miata for.

Thanks for all the help and sorry for the long post. I hope I'm not being stupid and overlooking some sticky or something. Also just to clarify I live in America on the west coast. I figured I would post here because most Europeans I've met are better drivers. Most Americans don't even know how to do simple stuff like driving a manual or changing a tire haha. Thanks again - Chance
