Thought I'd finally make a build thread for my newest ride.

Well I'll start with my previous car, which a few of you may remember!
Was an RB25det R31. Had all the usual shit people do to 31s with a few added things I thought made it stand out from the usual 31s you see all the time.

Took it to a few friday night sessions, did skids, had a ball, and all that jazz. But i ended up having to part it with the ominous amount of rust that had built up over the years.

Which brings me to my new whip.

A 1985 S12 Gazelle!
I bought this car with the intentions of being able to drive it on the street and at the track the same as my last car, but it's taking a little longer than I originally planned.
Anyways here it is in all its standard glory when i picked it

When i picked it up it was bone stock bar a pod, the 16" rays/volk mesh and a haggard genuine MOMO steering wheel.
Has 25xxxxkms on the clock, the paint is average, the bonnet and filler panel need to be replaced, the rear struts were completely blown and the ca20e is basically worn out.
But all those are simple fixes. The up side is it came with 6 months rego and rwc, its a factory manual (auto and manual bodies are different) and its a rarer IRS model.

So the day after i brought the car home is set about putting all the stuff out of my 31 that would fit suspension wise into the gazelle, changing the bonnet and filler panel and making the mk3s fit!
Wasn't a massive ordeal, just had to source some s14 castor rod brackets to make my IKEYA formula castor rods work and the rest was pretty straight forward in the front.
The rear was a little more interesting, while my proper springs were on order I had to survive the awesome comfort of cutting the rear springs. I pulled apart my s13 rear coilovers and used the inserts as adjustable struts for the rear and the retain the smaller spring so it didnt fall out.

All went reasonably smooth and it turned out like this!

I also added the little interior things from the 31 to try and make it feel a little more like my own and my new rear springs turned up too! Sits exactly the same just doesn't ride like shit anymore.

So that basically brings you up to where it currently sits!
ill do a quick specs run down then will continue with the parts I've collected for the next step of the build.

1985 IRS s12 gazelle

25xxxxkms
5 speed manual
new oem clutch kit
manual rack

Full s13 front including:
8kg BC BR coilovers
Brand new s13 LCAS
S13 hubs and knuckles
SR20DET brakes
Ikeya Formula adjustable castor rods
s14 castor rod brackets

Rear has s13 BC BR coilovers strips and inserts used for struts
New BC S12 springs

SSR MK3s
F: 15x7.5 -6 with an 8mm slip on to clear the sr brakes
R: 15x8 -0

tyres
195/50/15 chinas till i decide on which brand to run for steerers.

the rest is stock apart from the couple of interior things.

Anyways, I always intended on doing an engine conversion on this, but was having a hard time to decide on what.
SR20DET was the obvious option but it wasn't something I was really committed on doing and I didn't really want to swap in a ca18det like everyone else.
Then an S15 SR20DE VCT motor popped up and I decided thats what i was going to use.

So I went and picked that up including a heap of associated parts to do the conversion plus everything i needed to convert from the manual 4.2 turn lock to lock rack to a power steering s13 rack!

quick parts run down!

89xxxkm S15 SR20DE
extractors
NPC lightened flyhweel
excedy HD clutch
S15 loom ecu and afm
all bolts ons etc
S13 SR20 radiator (holes are on the wrong sides with the CA20 rad)
gktech clutch fan out of the 31
SR20 bellhousing to use with the CA20 gearbox to keep the driveline simple
R33 clutch master (engine will foul on standard item)
s13 power steering rack
s12 power steering column adapter to suit s12 to s13 rack conversion
s13 power steering lines and resivour
s13 engine mounts

and basically thats where im up to today!
oh I also have paint ready for the car, but I'll leave that for another update.

Awesome S12, as much as I love German metal I'd gladly have an S12 but they are getting rare and rotten. Don't you think a set of bike carbs and a straight through would see this a pure animal? If you removed the VCT of course.. But throttle bodies would be awesome.. Shame about the R31 too, got a build thread on that? Good luck and keep the updates coming

Would be awesome, but cost to power output isn't really worth the money IMO. The sound would be unreal though haha.

Yeah theres one on here somewhere! Be a few pages deep now.

S13 cam gear and ecu, R1 carbs. Could you make your own inlet and exhaust? Dum down the ecu to just use the crank sensor for spark. Couldn't be that much surely?

I wouldn't go carbs personally, ITBs perhaps, even then, not gonna have much of a gain bar response and induction noise haha.

I'm digging the "road less travelled" approach to your cars dude :) (for here at least)

Look forward to seeing how you get on with your *insert typical mid 80s RWD Hatch* ;)

As the paint on the car is currently terrible, I decided I'd paint it. Paint won't happen till after the SR is in but I do already have the paint!

Decided I didn't fancy the two tone that much, but wanted to stick with a factory colour. So I decided I'd stick to just one colour and picked up some midnight blue paint!

Bought all the thinners and clear etc I need to paint the car. Luckily enough a mate of mine is a painter too! So should be easy enough to paint it.

Had a decent weekend working on this thing!

Got the old ca20 out, all the broken aircon gear out and the crappy manual rack out! Was up until 3 in the morning to get it all done, thank god for bourbon motivation!

Spent all day today replacing the rack, putting the lock spacers in, swapping bellhousings and putting the SR in, YAY!

Lots of stupid little issues and grief when pulling everything out like all old untouched cars give.
Getting the new throw out bearing pressed in tomorrow then the driveline will be back in.
Need to do all the power steering lines, mount the resivour, mount the radiator, swap the hubs for my SR gktech fan, make the exhaust suit until I make a 2.5" system then should be ready for wiring on the 6th!!
