For sale is my 1996 E34 525TDS SE Touring Automatic. A final rollout example of the E34 with the facelift, lots of nice bits on it, and with an impeccable history. Ive used the car since October 07 and it’s been a complete pleasure to drive. It laps up miles and is very comfortable towing other cars, especially long distances. It returns on average 35mpg with 40+ achievable at motorway speeds. Its also quite quick if you press on, being the later 143hp intercooled model. The box changes smoothly and the car handles very well on the road.
It comes with the following features, and was just under 30k new.
5 speed auto with sport/winter modes
BMW factory alarm
Central locking
Front Fogs
ABS
Twin Sunroofs (working perfectly)
Cruise Control (ideal for towing)
8 speaker premium audio with sony CDX-L480X CD player
Elec windows (all working perfectly)
Elec Mirrors
Walnut trim (mm!)
Drivers Airbag
Factory Dog Guard (fits into rear bench)
Boot load cover
Factory 5 series luxury mats (kept under rubber mats)
Original Unused Fire Extinguisher & First Aid Kits
Towbar with twin electrics (makes the beepy indicator noises)
Its also subtley modified with
Clear Indicators
Smoked Repeaters
17" Alpina Replicas with good 235/45 tyres (1 centre cap missing)
Since owning the car I have taken it for an oil/filter service, changed fuel and air filters, changed two brake pipes and a rear shock mount. The MoT tester commented the car is one of the quietest diesels he’s ever heard.
The Service History comes with:
Original Brochure
Service Record Books, Service Location Book, Alarm Manual, Owners Handbook
Original Service Cards in BMW wallet
AA car data check pass in 2000
Towbar fitting of £200
Mobil 1 track record for first 40k of life
Cruise Control fitted at BMW dealership 12/1996
6 Former Keepers
3 keys for the car, 3 alarm fobs also and the all important red override fob too
MoT History: The car has every MoT receipt from new. I MoT’d the car yesterday and it passed with no advisories after I changed the brake pipes. It is now MoT’d until August 31st 2009

Overall, a trusty workhorse that laps up miles, and shows a good 50k less on the clock than most similar age cars. Late E34 means nice toys on board too. Huge boot, you can store your life in there (or everything for a drifty weekend away).
Two noteworthy problems with the car: the lift pump on top of the fuel tank is starting to weaken, so its seals let air into the diesel system when you start to run below 1/3 tank of diesel. This means the car can be difficult to start when cold, with a low fuel level. I had the fuel filter housing and the fuel lines pressure tested so by default there’s little else it can be – and the seals on the pump is a well known problem. I’d recommend a new lift pump from eurocarparts or to replace the seals if you know how. Secondly the doors are starting to bubble at the bottom edge, this has only begun to happen since January.
I’m asking £2100 for the car which I feel is a more than reasonable price. I don’t really need a swap, so it would have to be worth my while, but let me know.
The car is in fife, Scotland. I can be contacted on 07719367229
