So ive only went to one event and had some fun their getting the basics down. I can now do figure eights and just wide doughnuts, but im wanting to start hitting corners now. The only thing blocking me is Fear I guess. I was going around a corner one time(didnt plan on drifting it) and I braked hard like a noob and messed up the drivers side of the car(thankfully only cosmetic). That happened because of driver error/brakes/bald fronts. Anyways I want to be able to hit corners now but I need some tips. Only ones I know is be confident, and go faster than you think. So any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks. Yes I know VLSD blows but this one still locks with new fluid I put in but i'm on the hunt for a welded diff or welding a open one soon.

Just seat time, if fear is what is stopping you then nothing someone tells you on the internet is going to help. If you can already do donuts then you have the car control. Just ease up to it. 100mph clutch kick manji entry isnt going to be what you do first time. Just arrive at the corner at a normal speed and 'power over', skandi flick, wand, whatever to intiate. Then as confidence grows your entry ability will too. It all just seat time.

Ultimately I think Maccy is right and seat time is the answer, but I'd like to suggest an alternative. If you have a decent computer you could invest in a G27 wheel and Assetto Corsa, and practise on there in an accurate simulation environment where fear doesn't come into the question. I know this isn't for everyone but I think it's a good learning tool :)

Sod that, don't spend money on a computer game, spend it on seat time.

Of course. You miss out on all that. But if you can't get any more seat time for a while... It's an option.

Trust me. If you "chicken out" in the middle of the drift YOU WILL HAVE A BAD TIME. You cant have fear of accel. If you fear and dont accel or brake the car will straight out and you gonna hit the wall. Try out on the wet first to get the hang of it. And while drifting always look the way you want the ass of your car to go. Your brain will figure it out. And In case you mess up. dont never hit the brakes full power. First pull the hand brake to make the car spin and not go straight. ( Sry about my poor english btw)

I learned the hard way with my first car. If you dont have enought power your car is gonna straight out and you are gonna panic. When this happens and you cant control the car just pull the handbrake e turn for a spin.

To be fair I had been playing a LOT sim racing games for years before my first proper drift day. It definitely taught me the basics of how drifting works and how a car responds to certain steering wheel/throttle input.

Theres no point being a pussy about it. Just get in your car and go to a track day. You wont start the day with 100mph backwards entries, so if you cock up the exit youll just regain control and carry on, not 100 yards away upside down in a tyre barrier, you probably wont even end up off the circuit.

Thanks mate. I think people underestimate them which is understandable. A lot of them are arcadey and awful yeah , especially if you are playing with a controller or cheap wheel, but AC isn't one of them as it's designed to be realistic rather than just enjoyable.

DriftX on iPhone is pretty realistic as well....

What a load of shit, I play a lot of Xbox and its no where close.

Of course it isn't. Those aren't simulations. Neither are any of the Xbox games you're playing most likely, (ie forza etc). I definitely wouldn't recommend any random Xbox game.

Only way to learn is to do it. I found it just came naturally and your confidence will grow and grow. Better learning in the wet as the car will be harder to steer and control at times. Youl learn more about Steering and throttle control that way. Dry can be difficult if your in a underpowered car.

TBH not really man tracks around here so Ive just been going at night on empty roads when no ones around. Yeah yeah keep it off the street but right now I dont have opportunity for tracks since far aways.

I used to struggle getting the guts to run a hairpincorner with a wall around it. Until one of my friends who was a well experienced drifter got in the car with me, their small advise in times like that, as well as motivation can go a very long way
