Advice please???

Hey I'm looking at getting a better car for skidding as my mx5 just doesn't do it for me, have been offered a toyota soarer 4.0v8 pretty cheap to be fair only downside is it's auto :-( soo the advice I'm after
1 are autos ok for drifting if not
2 how easy is it to make it manual ?
 
yeah whats wrong with it?
my friend has a standard one and it goes very well.

anyway, same friend has a LS400 automatic and also does a bit of drifting but i think automatic will prevent proper drifting and some point
 
Bad drifters blame their drift cars..

Then buy drift cars with bigger engines to compensate for their lack of skills...

Then plow loads of money into turbo upgrades and hydro's... and still suck..

Then sell the car because there failing hard. However enjoy holding onto that 'TAKE BACK THURSDAY' of "I was a drifter ;) "

Such is the way of the 'UK' ..

My advice.. Learn to drift in a car that you struggle with. No reason at all the MX5 cannot be used as a great drift car, especially for learning. If you dont like it because its too small, or too girly, or not comfy enough, or not enough power.. then just stop drifting and buy a focus or something.

Regarding your questions.

Yes, Auto's can be drifted.. but why even bother when you have a manual RWD car capable already.
I dont believe its hard to swap if you know what your doing and you have cash for an R154 and all the other crap you need.. again though, why bother unless your heart is truly set on that particular car.
 
If you can't skid an MX-5 then don't bother buying another car because you can't drive.

Plenty of people have wicked times in the little Mazda's, and loads of people have swapped to them from other cars and found they've actually learnt an awful lot about car control.
 
I never said I couldn't skid my mx lol I can I just don't like it it's abit ropey not in great nick and just want something with more power not just for drifting but for my own amusement, my mx is actually a mk1 eunos 1.6 and it is good fun don't get me wrong but it's not enough it needs more work then I can justify spending on it hence why wanting something different I'm also interested in soarers because it means I can take my mrs and daughter out in it where as I can't in my mx it's not because i can't drift it at all just fallen out of love with it.
 
You can't justify fixing up an MX-5, but buying, running and doing a manual conversion to a V8 Soarer is cool???

You've also considered beemers right??
 
Don't like BMWs I had an e36 and put me off them forever and yer why spend more then the value of the car fixing it when I don't really like it when I can get something I do like and happily spend the money making it how I want it and be happy ?? I would have a s body or skyline but can't afford to buy one where as I can afford a soarer so can't see why not lol
 
Not to disappoint you, but if you complain about E36's reliability and say that you've spent "more than the value of the car fixing it", I can't imagine how would seem to you the reliability of a 20 years old turbo car...Especially when S13's ca18det and s14's sr20det are famous with everything else but not with being very reliable with stock internals when beaten on the track.

always here people talk about manualing stuff. never happens as it cost a fucking fortune.

stick with the mx5/buy a better one. They are a hell of a lot easier to drift than a big auto.
 
Hey man look at getting an s13 seen a good few for about the £800 mark and I got an bmw e30 or e36 as a practice car, about the same money, I paid £800 for mine and there's loads of parts available and good for conversions :)
 
£800 for an S13, yea a complete shed needing a total rebuild.
The days of decent sub £1000 S13's is about ten years ago!!

The sad thing is I remember all of them available back then, and still bought myself an utter shitter :wack:
 
peddle the mx5 harder, despite all the hairdresser jokes you will get they are a cool car to throw about just go in faster and not at 15mph and hoping power will pull you through
