AE86 cat

I finally worked out whats wrong with my exhaust. Initially I thought I needed a new zorst as I could hear blowing. I thought it was strange as the car has an aftermarket exhaust.

Today I jacked up the car and after investigating I found a sensor (maybe heat sensor) from the cat was broken. This was rattling and had come out of its hole. I removed the sensor and the exhaust does not rattle now but the there is a big hole which causes the blowing. Tryed to fill the hole with a bolt without any luck due to the shape. Has anybody else had similar problems with a JDM AE86 cat or does anybody know know where I can get a decat pipe ?

T3 test pipe is what you need m8.

get yourself over to TechnoToyTuning and talk to gabe.

The cat pipe works out about £25 and is a perfect fit. May be worth you ordering other bits too like rear links etc if your car dont have them.

Exactly the same mate. Thats the hole that is blowing, the one where the sensor goes in. But my sensor is totally broken. What does the sensor do and how will it effect my car (not having one)

Thats a very good question...

as far as I can tell from looking in the workshop manuals at the wiring diagrams its not an o2 sensor. I am pretty sure this sensor only controls a light on the dashboard that will come on 'if' the cat breaks down and starts to overheat.

A quick solution would be to take it along to a garage and just get them to weld up the boss where the sensor goes in (it has an awkward lip - this is where both metal brackets of the sensor should bolt up to).

Some of the other rattles will be the shielding on the cat. The two pieces are bolted round the edge and are probably rusted though.

If you lift the passenger carpet you will also find a block connector that the sensor plugs into. Disconnect it and pull the exhaust end through the shell. You'll just need to get a rubber gromet/plug the same size as the one u removed and hey presto.

Maybe you'd better wait and see if other hachi owners come and tell you I'm wrong. I'd say the best techie places for hachi info are

http://www.aeu86.org/forums (euro version of club4ag - a good bunch)
http://www.twincam.org (not just hachi but other 4AG powered stuff too
http://www.club4ag.com (can be slow)
