Now then. Im in South Africa and i'm considering shipping a vehicle home, theres a few ae86's knocking about over here too. if i was to bring a bog standard average mileage coupe back over, i know its a vague as fuck question but what sort of price do they go for? obviously theres loads of factors but rust doesnt seem a big issue over here so the body work on them tends to be in good nick and i aint gonna buy a shitter with loads of miles.

i know ive left myself open to a good slating here so fire away haha

thanks

I've been told that many AE86's were actually made in SA and that they were made with much cheaper steel and poorer electrics.
If this is true then I'd avoid a "SA" AE86 at all costs as the british roads/weather will chew through them faster than Dan Chapman through a KFC mega bucket.

However to the clueless then for a super clean one 4k.
Shittier one, 3k.

cool thanks mate!! ill bare it in mind

You could bear it in mind, but TBH I'm fairly sure thats bollocks.

IIRC all AE86s were made in Japan, back then they didnt have factories around the world.

Prob get more than 4k for an absolute minter too considering how so many are rot boxes.

Feel free to go correct Toyota's database then as when my chassis number was put into their computer that was the detail that came back.

Was a late GT Apex.

To Spread some light

Toyota South Africa never imported the 86 as a legal car they brought in two of which one was written off the other was owned buy a guy in cape town bought by some one from subaru, then modified and sold on to some one out of south Africa.
So essentially i dont know what u going on about cause there are no 86's in South africa as it stands and they were never imported in south Africa.
If you want a good one i suggest making sure and absolutely sure the car is a minter and paying good money for it .
Like from carland86.com
or from the Japanese auctions.
They rust in the weirdest of places and are hard to fix once the rust starts, its harder to get body panels now for them too.
And other parts are also becoming very very dear for them .
Using it for drifting would be ideal as i imported one in zimbabwe and used it for a bit but the rust got to me and i hated it, i love clean cars simple.!!!!
So in saying that get a clean car and u will enjoy they handle like a go kart on rails , and they are a pleasure to drive the most enjoyable car i have ever owned .
They are amazing and are so composed but dont abuse it or it will bite u in the Ass.
They need a quick thinking driver with good feel for the wheel, u need to learn to drive the car essentially.
So Get one dont waste time bring it home and give me a shout once u have it i have some parts for it as well that u might need when it comes.
Cheers
Adam

Well I haven't just pulled a story like that out my ass. I gave my chassis number to the local Toyota dealer and thats the tale I was told. Some were made NOT SOLD in SA. MADE..and then shipped out.

You could pay top dollar for an AE86 or you could save your 6 thousand pound on a car thats quicker, better made and will out handle an ae86 all day long.

when i was in south africa i seen 4 AE86s in the space of a week which is more then what i normally see over here in the uk.

You used to be the biggest AE86 bummer around, slating pretty much everything else as gay and shit when you owned one.

Sure you not confusing them with the FWD versions you get in SA, not an AE86 but don't look far off. I've had a mate on the hunt for one for ages and he got close with one...until he opened the bonnet.

Trust me I have looked for an AE86 in SA since Ive been here (and before I left) and there are none to speak of, although I have heard of one but that it has since left SA. If there are any please do show....I would be shocked!

It's a shame though as all the other Corolla models are readily available in SA and for cheap (relative to other car prices). Just not willing to spend the same amount of money on importing an AE86 where for the same price I can get something much faster and newer imported for the same price, if not cheaper. Plus it's such a mission to get any form of import permit.

Most are 4 doors which for the AE86 is about the biggest give away about it not being an AE86, but you do get some 2 door booted ones and hatch ones which can be mistaken.

yeah thats the ae82

Those are the Ae82 cars and they suck fwd bloody krap..... why didn't Toyota flipping import the dam ae86 what were the RD department thinking 1!!! I give up any ways the 86 I had I sold it off and its now been rolled .... and well its been rebuilt to a shoddy as hell condition from what the owner has told me and its never going to be the same again ....So best bet is I will find another one later on and import it as a special car cause they are so expensive and are rare as fack !!!! why the hell did Toyota stop production of a car that was probably the cheapest and best thing since sliced bread!!

Ps sold it because it was rusted to hell ....

Hi
Do you have any pics of the AE86 in SA?

If it was registered/licensed you should be able to license an import.

Cheers

Who knows.

FYI I have a Hachi Roku it black and grey, it's the Batmobile, if Robin plays nice maybe Batman may let you use it...
