Rite,

My car need's lowering at the rear!
The front end is sorted with a strut brace, TRD anti-roll bar and bushing's, TRD Shocks and springs and its nice and low and stiff......as for the rear it also has shocks and springs but no strut brace or roll bar??

firstly though its just not sitting as nice or even level with the front!!

so basically what springs are GREAT!!! i want a low or very low look!
what springs are reccomended or tried and tested...i was thinking along the lines of Fenport springs or Tein springs but i thought i would run it by first??

If you got money to spare, get T3 ( http://www.technotoytuning.com/ ) coilovers for the rears, you can adjust height as you like. Do remember that if you want to go very low you're gonne need adjustable panhard rods and thats sorta stuff or the rear will be out of alignment.

Also for the front, if you are going very low, make sure you get some RCAs or you will ruin your ride. Zax on www.aeu86.org is getting a group buy together for around 40 euros per set, you can't beat that price anywhere!

Its ashame you already got asfar as you are because the complete T3 coiloverset + RCAs + camber plates are a great value for money kit.

I'm personally running Paradise racing adjustable coilovers at the front but I really need to replace my front konis with AE92 konis and shorten the strut casing. For the rear I got some lowered APEX springs that were already on the car when I got her. I haven't desided on the rear yet but some guys on club4ag are working on a height adjustable spring set that you can put in the stock location for the rears. I like that idea better then full coilovers for the rear. So I'll wait for that:)

Yeah i have already checked out Gabes website and its great!!
im getting the adjustable camber plates + the NCRCA's and the short shifter off him.

but i am not going coil over....i have adjustable damping with trd anti roll bars + bushing and f+r strut braces so i dont want coilovers as everyday equipment...too harsh.

i do want however a low set of springs and im not sure what are best??
i was looking at getting TEIN springs but maybe fensport??

any suggestions apart from COILOVERS!!

OSC,

Ah ok:) Hmm, I dont know about the fensport ones. I've think I read good things about the Tein ones on club4ag.

paradiseracing can get front springs in any strenght you want to go with their kit but I am not sure about the rears, I think you can order the rears aswell at any specification you want but no idea about prices.

I'm still searching myself and haven't made a desision so do let us know what you eventually deside and why:)

All rear lowering springs for AE86 arent low enough. I cut half a coil off mine usually, but 1 coil if you want to go low.

If you like the way the rear of my car sits, i'll be selling the springs soon and they are very stiff and feel great. I believe they are KG/MM brand.

Paz, there is such a thing as a kg/mm brand? You know kg/mm is same as lbs per whatever you guys name it, so its the scale to measure the stiffness of the springs:)

Rite!

thats the second time i heard that rear springs for the AE86 are never low enough so i will take half a coil off and see how she is then??

if im not happy.....off she goes again!!

SORTED!!!

Rite, now wheres the angle grinder?? :smash:

If you call Trident at Silverstone they can get any spring made up. Think Corolla is either 5" or 4.75". The 4.75 is easier for Trident to get. They can do any length and spring rate!

No offence mate but your thinking is totally wrong.

If you want to go low on an AE86, you have to go short stroke and if you are going short stroke, you may as well go coilover.

If you fit lowering springs, I GUARANTEE you the ride & handling will be shite in comparison to a mildly sprung short stroke set-up.

I have run various lowered springs and various shocks (KYB, Billies, Koni etc) and nothing comes close to my T3 coilover setup.

My car is properly on the deck but is actually more comfortable than with lowered springs as the stroke is in the correct position and the majority of the drop is taken out at the strut rather than using up spring travel.

I run a 4kg spring which is soft in comparison to most people who over spring their weak AE86's (on low grip tyres as well) because that's what everyone else does. Still, 4kg is a lot stiffer than any of the lowered spring kits, but it is more comfortable because it is in a correctly damped set-up.

Hmmmm....

Well maybe you are rite but as i said the front end is sorted and feels pretty good...not too harsh but stiff with a lo appearance...

as for the rear, the shocks are good the the springs are just to soft sprung!

fair enough i will admit coilovers are the all round better package but what i got is fine for me and all i need is advice or a good brand of spring so i can replace the rear springs with lower stiffer items....let it be TEIN,Eibach,TRD,Fensport etc.....im open to suggestins

Cheers...

To do it properly, you'll need to find the rate of your front spring and go from there... A F:R ratio of about 3:2 is about right for a nice handling balanced AE86.

Fair enough if you're happy with what you've got, but once you decide on the rate (again, matched to about 66% of the front rate), a spring is pretty much a spring. Custom springs are cheap enough, plus they'll be the rate you require.

I'd recommend a straight rate for more predictable and consistent handling, though progressives are OK for comfort/looks/drivers who don't notice changes in feedback.

How low do you want to go? Decent ride heights require adjustable Panhard rods and cut bump stops.

Hope this helps mate.

Cheers man,

i will find out what rate the fronts are....

as for the rear i will be putting a whiteline adjustable panhard rod anyway.

im not looking to slam it like a lowrider...just to match it with the front!!

you can see my car on this website...do a search under my username and you will see it for yourself...
