I know there was some confusion over this so I've just spoken to Terry and he's confirmed that AFFF foam handheld fire extinguishers are fine for use in Eurodrift

The regs will be updated soon as he gets a spare minute

Aqueous Film Forming Foam

yup

AFFF or FOAM:

This type of extinguisher is used by almost every works rally car in the world, because it has very good extinguishing power. It's quick, it cools and seals the fire from oxygen and will not allow the fire to restart. It leaves very little mess - any mess is easily hosed off with water.

AFFF works as well on A Class fires as it does on B Class fires and most importantly, is the only truly successful agent on turbo fires.

DRY POWDER:

This is the most commonly found extinguisher in rally cars in Australia. It is cheap and easily purchased.

The trap with dry powder is that there are 2 types - BE and ABE. The BE type will only be successful in putting out B Class fires such as oil and petrol. The ABE type will put out A Class fires (wiring loom, car interiors, grass, bushfires etc.) as well as B Class fires.

The dry powder puts out the fire by stopping the chemical reaction. However the drawback is that by using this type of extinguisher on a turbo or a fuel fire near a hot engine block, the possibility of the fire re-starting again after being extinguished is very high. This is due to the fact that dry powder does not remove the fuel fire or cool the affected area to a temperature below which a fire will start.

Dry powder is basically made up of salt and is very abrasive and corrosive and will cause damage to engine internals and paint.
