another m52 problem, ews i think?

So my car has been sat with no engine for about 6 months, I bought one on ebay a month ago but only just put it in as I have been sourcing parts that were apparently not removed or cut.

He sent me the ecu, key and told me there was no ews box behind the glove box, apparently its built in the ecu on early models. checked the vin on the ecu and it says it was made in dec 95.

So I went to start it today, fitted the ecu he sent me, by passed pins 1 & 3 on the ews plug and put the key through the chip reader, I'm getting fuel but no spark. This makes me think its an ews problem.

I tried my key and ews box on that ecu (wasn't expecting it to work it was just a test) this did the same, spark but no fuel.

Does tho sound right to you guys or could it be the crank or cam sensor, he told me it was a decent running engine but I don't believe him after the shit he has already lied about.

Also would it run on idle with a 323 ecu? As I still have mine with all the ews and would like to hear the engine run before I go any further.

I thought all M52's had an EWS module behind the glove box.

Best thing to do is try it with a key chip, an ecu and a module that you know are all synced together.

Crank sensor will cause no spark if its fucked.

I've heard the 323's will run on the 328 ECU's (I've tried, it does work) but the 328's won't run on 323 ECU's, could be bullshit though, I'd still try if you've already got one.
 
Cool back to have ago with the 323 ecu, he did sound a bit special when I spoke to him on the phone about it.

The twat even cut the main power wire from the loom to the starter :confused:
 
Yeah that's why I wanna test run it, thinking about it even if it doesn't run with the 323 ecu it should still give me a spark and fuel, at least then I will know
 
Yeah been talking to him he has done one for me before, for anyone in the future a 2.8 will run on idle with a 2.3 ecu
 
Was just about to say m52 ecus are the same with just a different map on them.

If it's Dec 95 it definitely has ews2 as my 328 is March 95 and has it. (just had an ecu supplied by end tuning with ews delete, raise limiter and remap for m50 and it pulls awesomely now!
