Evening all

Been to a couple of drift days myself and seen that everyone takes a million(exaggeration)tyres, i take 6 part worns in my mx5(4 on a boot rack)and just about lasts the day up pod on the big track.

But was wondering is it worth buying the cheapest brand new tyres and lets say take 4?

Or do they just get to hot and break up just as quick?

May be a stupid question but hey

always best to skid on new stuff, lasts longer and more predictable - lots of people do it..

treads of malvern (traders on here) do retreads cheap and im gonna try them out as there really cheap for 8mm rubber

Cheers bud, love having new tyres on the car feels so much better! Would be nice to skid hence y i asked whats it like :)

How do i find these malvern traders?

a few of loose crew buy new tyres to skid on. normally from garage d, tried and tested with no delams.

I use new whenever I can. Last longer, more smoke, more control and due to going through less you spend hardly anything with tyre changing.

Don't use the cheapest of cheap tho, they can delam pretty quick.

Infinity inf50's wear well imo. Also federal 595ss's

Had Marangoni Mythos on my Supra (245/40/17) and felt awesome! must better control from the Rear when sliding

Also Falken's are Good! last abit longer too than Marangoni's

As for Cheap Used tyres... liked DOUBLESTARR Tyres as they Last for ages!

But Cheap Free Tyres that are great are Pirrelli P5000 Drago's... Great tyres but rare to find as Discontinued

BUMPING this old thread, as I'm finding myself in a similar situation and wanting to try new tyres.

Seem to be spending too much time changing wheels / tyres and not really having much consistency with tyre grip. Wouldn't mind trying either cheap new or retreads (haven't experimented with them before, so not so sure which would be preferable)...

So, is there any new info / changes with regards tyre brands and sources to check out (or avoid for that matter)?

I now spend around £20/£25 on tyres off eBay that have 7/8mm instead of £40 a tyres for brand new. Saves abit and defo last longer than part worms with 3mm and £10 a pop!

Will look into Driftrubber thanks!

Jack, I tend to avoid tyres off eBay as they don't appear consistently. That and postage often kills any real good deal. Looks like I'm really only heading in one direction here, unless any other sources?

With regards remoulds / retreads, any generic experiences on how well they tend to work?

Do you guys get Tri-ace's over there? Or Neuton's?

The Tri-ace Carrera and Neuton NT5000 are probably the best new cheap tyres we've found for durability, grip and consistency. Both smoke well too. They are around NZD$90 each for 215/45/17, so equivalent of 40-45 quid each.

I've been meaning to try drifting new tyres for a while, as it would definitely be more satisfying to have proper grip and predictability, but I was always put off by the potential cost. But from what people are saying here, it sounds like it could work out fairly cheapish, since the tyes last longer, and it would be worth it just to not have to stop and swap wheels after just a few runs. :)

I run low power (230bhp) with 205/40/r16 tyres. Brand new maxxis for 32.50 (euros) per tyre. Set the car up right and those tyres are absolutely awesome. Don't be expecting big smoke from 230bhp but for me it's the best option. I can burn 8-10 tyres on a really dry and long drift day and still only spend about 300euro on tyres.
