few of us have got these for a bit of a mess around at work and had the idea of using them at the next drift day we go to and maybe getting some aerial footage

anyone tried this before?

I haven't but it's pretty common (and getting bigger and better all the time) here in the US. Here's a good example from a recent event:
Nearly every pro-am event has at least one drone operating, it takes some time and creativity to get worthwhile results IMHO though, I've seen several drone videos that I wasn't that impressed with. Staying safe and getting dynamic shots requires some forethought, most people try and stay away from sitting above the racing surface, and sit in a spot where they can rotate to get a shot or an interesting viewpoint from a higher level.

One of my mates bought one and took it up to Crail for my first drift day (so don't expect mega skids). He wasn't allowed into the centre to control it so could only really do one corner. He was saying once it gets a certain distance away though its pretty hard to know where its pointing etc.
Footage is here:

one of my friends brought one to take down lydden hill last weekend but they don't allow them so couldn't try it :(

yeah apparently you need a licence to be able to fly them in public also. my mates going to be getting his practical done soon. hopefully get some better footage with it!

that looks mint!

do you recon they would let you use it at the pod? going up there later this month and recon it would be a good laugh

Depends how sound the Marshalls are I suppose. We weren't able to take ours over the track until Sam proved he could fly it properly.

Dont want those things falling onto the track though :p Or landing on someones head haha. :D

Yeah exactly, which is totally fair and at the end of the day it is down to the Marshall's discretion if they're going to let you take it out on a live race track.

You can use it as long as you sign a disclaimer and wear a hivis etc , also if it gets wiped out in the track its your issue :D

No flying anywhere near the crowd.

I have a modded Phantom myself.

My mate has one of these and used it where we ride the other day, they would be awesome if allowed at a drift day.
