Bargain AE86

My car still does not start. The engine is sparking and petrol is going thorugh. Mechanics are charging me loads and can not work out the problem. I also live in a flat and have no where to work on the car
After a pretty stressful week Im thinking of selling the car :( Its costing me loads to store the car and nobody seems to be able to fix it. Its very painful and I just wanna give up

Here is the spec

-1984 with 175KM (about 110,000 miles)

-Import with 11 months MOT and 5 months TAX

-BODYWORK: The car is a rot and rust free example imported from Japan. It does not have any rot anywhere, see pics. Some very minor rust patches and the tailgate could become rusty in the future due to the spoiler. It has been attached by rivots, some of the rivots have come out.
.
-TRD Fiberglass rear spoiler

-Grill, headlights and front bumper from a facelift AE86.

-Rear interior and passenger seat are from a facelift AE86. It is the very rare black interior. I will also include lots of spare interior parts with the car. The rear quarter interior panels have been cut to make way for the roll bars.

-Drivers seat is an original Bride racing seat. These are very supportive, comfortable and expensive.

-Uprated clutch, heavy and tight.

-TRD 2 way limited slip differential.

-Spats racing Strut Brace at the front.

-Cusco adjustable camber plates.

-8 Way Adjustable GAB Coilover Suspension. Only available in Japan. Very Expensive and rare.

-Roll cage in the back with extra bar to go across rear seats. This has currently been removed so rear seats are accessible. This can easily be added back on for even more safety and structural rigidity. The extra bar will be provided with the car.

-Small momo steering wheel

-Hoshino Impul split rim racing wheels at the back. http://www.impul.co.jp/

-Speedstar MK II chrome split rims at the front. Cost a fortune in Japan and unavailable in the UK.

-Expensive Bridgestone tyres at the front with very good tread. Rear tyres are Japanese tyres with hard wearing compound.

-Drift button on Handbrake

-HKS Mushroom Air Filter

-Cusco High Pressure Radiator Cap

-Alpine in dash 3 CD shuttle with graphic equaliser, radio and cassette player.

-Brand New parts on the car include: HT leads, ignition coil, Distributor Cap, Spark Plugs, rotor and oil.

-Lots of other stuff. The extras on this car are worth a fortune. It is all top quality Japanese tuning parts.

- The engine has been compression tested and all cylinders are OK but working on the current engine will be too expensive according to the mechanic.

The car with a non-starting engine has to be worth 2950 including all the extra's to somebody who can tow it away and has knowledge of engine. When the engine was running she was awesome and worth much more.
What do you think ?

Im not being smart, but have you checked that the exhaust isnt blocked.
I have seen this happen a few times with cars and I have had a Twincam blow the backbox apart after towing it to try and start it.
Just take it apart from where the system joins the manifold and try start it then...............worth a try ;)

Can't one of the more experienced english AE86 owner give sunny a hand? My experience often is that a helping hand from a friend who knows his car is worth 1000x more then any garage. 4AGs dont just die, it must be something simple.

my dads 1st 4age was pumping out blue smoke and it still used to go like stink... dad said im going to kill it we was reving the car on the rev-limiter nearly all night and she didnt give up the ghost.. untill we hit a bank but it still got us home and mux is right 4age engines dont just give up ae86's in genral are built like tanks  dont just give up on ur girl :) :) :) they sometimes just need some love :dermal:

Sunny ZX, where abouts are you? I reckon this could be an easy fix but diagnosing at a distace is too much guesswork. If you're not too far away I don't mind coming and taking a look. I've no experience with 86's only Nissan but I know EFI well enough and most systems are the same in principle. If you have any tech literature like a service manual then I reckon I could definately sort it.

Most garages don't know much and aren't willing to learn so don't take anything they say as gospel. My dad had a Nissan 300C (VG30E 3.0L V6 like a 300ZX) which died and wouldn't run other than at idle. A fuel injection specialist had the car for TWO WEEKS and still couldn't fix it, finally telling him the ECU had gone and he needed a new one. I went and collected it on a trailer from them, brought it home and had it sorted in about 10 minutes by slapping on another airflow meter. Some specialist

The car has been moved from mechanics. It is now parked outside my mum's. The engine still turns over but not starting.
I need it moving soon because my mum is getting anoyed, somebody from the forum has first refusal but I need to move this quickly.
Anybody else interested in a cheap drift spec AE86 ?
Maybe somebody with knowledge of the 4AGE could sort this out and have a very nice AE86 for less than £3k

Sunny,

are you anywhere near Derby ? if so I suggest you give Bryan a ring at Powerhouse Engine Developments on 01332 366588. This man is Mr 4AGE - hes a toyota technician with 12+ years experience of the 4AGE/ZE motors - he has built engines for rally cars etc etc. He is currently looking after the finer points of my engine. He has done is own 20v Turbo conversion on a FWD 'Rolla GTi - oh and he made it 4wd too.

Could be worth a try.

If you do ring him mention my name and the white 'rolla and I'm sure he can help you.

Where are you mate? And what did the mechanic say was wrong with the engine?

Hi,
my first post! ive been a long time lurker and general drift scene internet stalker :o since the site started but i only have a :dermal: ff diesel shopping trolley at the mo' so not much point me joining in yet :)

you got any pics of the new interior?
are you open to offers?
im really interested but it depends how soon i can get some money sorted out :(

looks like a bit of a dog to me

on one hand you say "Some very minor rust patches and the tailgate could become rusty in the future due to the spoiler" and then you say "rot free"

so obviously a car with rust patches is not a "Rot Free" car, :dermal:

your a first class penis arent you? this guy is trying to sell this car and your just pullin it apart. If you have nothing positive to say, stfu

I say good luck with the sale mate!! The spoiler looks proper cool!
Have you got any engine bay shots? :)

I don't think it looks like a dog at all, being an import its much less likely to be rust filled than a uk one, and from wht i've heard (and my experience of AW11's) you'd be a fool to expect to get a completely rust free AE86.
