Best Cheap Drift/Daily Car?

I’ve just become interested in cars and want to know what cars are best to start off with. I want a car that I could drift gravel backroads with but still use as a daily for now and progressively build up. Also wondering what are the best, cheap upgrades to begin with.

Very rarely are 'upgrades' actually 'upgrades'. Generally you just change the dynamic of the car, what slight gain you make here you lose somewhere else.... for gravel roads a fairly standard car might be best and the best thing you could do to it would be to put some decent adjustable dampers on it and adjust the front toe to suit your driving.

Covered many times.

Manual E36 any model you can afford
Manual E46 any model you can afford
Manual Mx5 any model you can afford

Cheapest would probably be a 1.8 MX5 but you’ll be limited to 2 seats and if your above 6ft you might hate it.

Bigger the engine size GENERALLY the easier the skid will be.

LSD or welded diff and like above said a stiffer suspension set up and you’ll be laughing

How much would a decent LSD be and how difficult is installation?

Mx5 could probably find one for £150 somewhere but more than likely £200 up.

BMW it wouldntbe be worth doing at the cost they are you’d be better of just getting a spare open diff and welding it.
Installation is easy enough just 3 bolts holding most diffs in and then drive&half shaft bolts. Fairly straight forward but with no mechanical experience will be a bit of a challenge.
