Got a 316 compact what tyres shouldi be running not ready to engine convert it yet so whats best tyre options should i go really good grippy tyres and chinese ones on the back or ?...

A lot comes down to personal preference.

You don't want cheap shite on the front so every time you try anything it just washes out with understeer, equally, at a beginner level, you might not want the best of super sticky trackday rubber that needs heat into it before it works!

For the front, a lot of guys up here use Nankang NS2, Uniroyal Rainsport etc with others using Federal 595-RSR, Nankang NS2R, Toyo R1R, Westlake sticky jobbies.
I've used the R1Rs and the NS2R for drifting and found them to be great!

For the rears, whatever you can find. If you want to go 185 width and up the tyre pressure, with cheap budget shite or partworns you can get cheap, you're laughing :)

Thats great thanks at the minute its got chinese tyres all round so planned to buy some decent fronts and end up with 2 spare rear chinese tyres

The only thing is its got 17s all round and people have said thats to big for drifting they should all be 15s especially on a 316

Its going to be used 80% on the road whats my best plans to go for for widths and inches

I'd probably try and find yourself some cheap 15s for skids, keep the 17s for "going home" wheels :)
7" wide with a 185 or 195 will do you fine (I drifted on 195 on an MX5 that was seriously down on power)

As daft as it sounds... when your brand new it makes nearly sod all difference

Run matching tyres on the front.

Run free old tyres on the back.

play with the pressures as you learn... as you go through rear tyres you'll naturally try different width rears as thats what you'll find for free... see how different ones feel

nobody can tell you what to do. you just have to do what all drifters have done since day one... drive and learn

Ive also got a 316 compact

running 195 55 15s ns2s on the front and running budget 185 60 15s on the rear with bout 60 psi drifts ok in the dry but need to pedal it hard but is fine in the wet.

get some cheap 15s can collect a pair of standard 15 alloys for around 40 quid

have fun you'll find what works for you i've been tryna get to grip with best set up for the dry but have the wet set up nailed you'll learn as you go

good luck
