Hello my friends. First of all, im noob in mechanics. Im starting now in drift world. I have a 320i 2013. And i want tô know if you could help. I wanna make a swap, put a 1jz gte vvti, in my 320i. I've got a n20b20, 4 cylinder, but i think the 1jz fit in my engine bay. So im from brasil and nobody in the bmw fórum Brasil, support me in this swap, they just said im crazy. In some way, they right, here everything is expensive. Do you think that the swap can be done or not? And what is the difficults that i will face in this swap ?

I know we got to consider a lot of things tô do a engine swap. Transmission, steering rod, engine bay, eletronic and etc. My biggest question is the transmission. My transmission is automatic and i wanna know if i can keep the original or i will have tô swap tô? I just want tô swap because i really like the JZ sound and i want work on this car, make the car unique. Right now, i Just want a street car. But in the future, i want a drift build.

Im dont much about mechanic as you all can see. Im sorry if said something wrong

Hey man! I kinda like the idea, it could have been cool but if you want a street car I don't recommend it at all. If you are on a very advanced mechanical level it may have been possible. You'd also have to change almost all the wairing harness' of your car and getting the AC to work is also often not easy to fix. So honestly you should rather find an older car to do a swap like this. To much electrical stuff on a car like that

Hello, my friend. I was asking myself if that swap could be done, but im starting to give up. I'll have to change the transmission, i'll need something to handle the JZ Power. I'll have all the wiring problem, the mounts ajusts when i put the engine. And everything because i like the JZ power and sound. I have the car for a while and like everybody, comes a time, you want something more. In the moment that i thought in that Project, i knew that it wasnt be easy. But thank you for answer, if want tô help and the answer for this puzzle, i'll be ver greatfull.

But have you considered to buy a new bmw engine? put in a 335i or something then you get an awesome sound and plenty of power!

I already consider!! But still more cheaper, i buy the 1JZ motor. The reason why im thinking about the swap is because a saw tão videos, the first one put a 2jz on a BMW f10, and then i started tô search a little more and i Discover another guy that make swaps on BMWs, and he works puting 1jz and 2jz on it. The interesting thing about this two guys is that they use the original transmissions.

For an intermediate guy it is possible as mentioned. I know many use the bmw 530d tranny from the e39 on 2jz and simulare engines so i guessed it would go fine with an adapter, but that’s not my expertise but is your f30 manual or automatic? Not sure how easy it would be regarding the torque converter and that stuff that comes with the auto tranny

I forgot tô mentioned that the f10 2jz and the others BMWs (e92, e90, e46 ), they all kept the original automatic transmission. My f30 have automatic transmission.

That's the interesting thing, how they keep the original. With the people that i talked, they all said the same, to swap for manual and buy a CD009 or R154

Think i’d rather swap the tranny while u’r at it! Manual is a lot more fun and i think it has a better sound to it! Don’t know how it works on a new car but on my e39 it’s just to take away the cables from the automatic ecu and add a sensor for reverse lights, might have to map something but i doubt it. Quite sure you have to tho. The 530d tranny is also not that expensive

Do you think your transmission handle such Power ? The CD009 is the 350z transmission and i saw something about adapters for bmw transmission For 1jz

Depends on your driving, if you are going the speed limit you could probably make it with a yaris tranny But the oem tranny might have issues if you boost it etc... But i don’t know to much bout that, you gotta look up the specs. 350z tranny i’ve heard a lot good of, google will probably help you find adapters for most popular engines and trannies
