BMW 335i (e92) novice

Hi all.
As per title novice build and hopefully will attend practice day shortly!
Well, my first car was a BMW and 15 years later I just do like them. Had many and currently own 5.
Bought a 2 salvage 335i's. One was intended to go into my e34 LCI Touring and other to become a drift car/track car. Both e34 and 335i auto is for sale as drift car is very demanding in time and funds. :(
So far only managed to rebuild the front end and weld a differential.
Fitted custom lights and I do like them, however had cooling and cold air intake in mind. No headlights - opens an amazingly large spaces for the air intake and turbo side cooling.
Limited budget and all works to be done on my drive.
Would very much welcome any advise from anybody experienced in builds and drift.
Somebody might have got some unwanted parts and would like to get rid of them?
Instagram @novice_drift_build_335i
Will upload Photos and Videos as build progress.

This is the target and I will get there.... just love that Pandem kit....

Ah I see!

Best thing I can advise is cover some of the basics, a fixed bucket seat, coilovers and a good clutch set up.
I have been looking at the bucket seats, coil overs but not a clutch as yet. I'll let it burn before upgrade :) does not yet slip. Vehicle has done 66k, don't think that is true even tho no mileage discrepancy indicated.
Not sure what the best bucket seats would be? Recliners, retro style, rally, steel frame or fibre glass?
As for coil overs HSD or BC?

Thank you for the basic tips :)

I think the only person on here that has experience of drifting a 335i in the UK is bolf (that’s his username). I don’t know him personally but have seen his for sale thread on here. He may be able to help you.
As far as uk support from tuners, ProTuner, MnM Engineering and Nispro can help.
From what I have researched drive shafts can snap, otherwise the drive train is very strong. 420bhp is easily achievable with bolt on parts and mhd software, after that it’s upgraded turbo’s, meth injection and extra injectors.
Reliability can be an issue and repair costs can be huge. They are complicated cars, and simple problems can turn into big jobs. Oil leaks from the sump and oil filter housings are very common. Sump leaks are a big job due to the subframe having to be removed for access. Same for turbo replacements, so if your car has the common wastegate rattle, shit can get expensive quickly.
There are a few options for clutches, I was going to put a 550i clutch in mine. Aftermarket support is growing so you can buy a twin/triple plate clutch, easily capable of holding big power.
I’d personally go for HSD coilovers, best option for the price they cost.
Wisefab is an option for steering once you have progressed driving skills.
They are fantastic cars when they’re working properly. I love mine, but haven’t been able to drift yet. Very good fast road car’s so I’m sure they’ll be very capable drift cars.
They’ll be the next big thing if they become cheaper to buy, in my opinion obviously.

Hi, thank you for your comment. I shall try to approach your mentioned companies too.
So far I have contacted few regarding sponsorship of the build and they all came back with a huge discounts including MHD tuning (www.mhdtuning.com) provided by Momir.
There is quite a lot of n54 performance upgrades and cheap, however I am not going that route, to what I believe is a much better choice MTC Motorsport (www.mtcmotorsport.co.uk) and Matt agreed to sponsor build too. Front mounted intercooler, decat high flow downpipes, charge pipe, turbo intake pipes.
As for lock kit, there is a guy in Lithuania that makes the lock kits based on e46 bearing hub and that is €420.
I have got a good knowledge of bmw's and if there is something I do not - Google knows it all.
I am here as I really value an opinion of people who has done it, raced it and proven it worked :)
I have contacted Driftworks regarding HSD and if a discount would be available, heard nothing back...
Euro Car Parts not responded either.
Company specialising in racing seats, harnesses, etc... came back to me, but the biggest discount they could offer is 12%.
Body kit will come from www.diveriksperformance.com, made to order and should be here within next 3-4 weeks. Can't say if he sponsoring the build or not :)

I have attached a few images of performance upgrades, see what you think.
Believe kit is good up to 500hp.

By the way, a 2.5t jack bought from parker products broke on the first use. what a .... , they sending a new one out....

Hey!
Thank you so much for an awesome write up mate.
As you can see I gone down to MTC route too. Matt gave me an awesome deals on all mentioned parts, MHD sorted too, just need an android device to have it done :)
You have mentioned quite a few things I have not thought about it, all tiny bits in the engine compartment, very much appreciated.
Was looking for a a lot larger oil cooler with no fan.
Also will be upgrading a rear suspension and front too. Not an m3, but aftermarket poly arms, etc.

Believe it or not, mine is already decated. Previous owner welded pipes in place of cats lol....
HSD is out of stock, driftworks told me they expecting delivery at the end of this month, but website says within 90 days....
Mine will be completely gutted out. Already started removing Logic 7 amp and wires.

As for ABS and DTC, not sure about it yet. Pedal box with a bias adjuster.

I will have seats in a fixed positions without sliders. Are you saying that you have E92 seat mounting frames for sale?

Have looked at few seat options, BIMARCO probably will be (fibreglass), as Rally Shop has a good discounts in place and will sponsor build with further reducing their prices.

So yeah, a lot to do once everything turns up and can not prepare much, as it is raining outside :(

No worries, I'm interested to see how your build goes anyway, make sure and take lots of photos.

I have these rails which I won't be using:

20190501-211027.jpg

20190501-211111.jpg

The first pair are for using with universal sliding rails, or side mounts like in your first photo above. I have a pair of those I can include too.

The second pair are Brey-Krause. Very high quality with harness mounts as part of the rail. They also have holes for mounting the OEM belt too, with a nice locator for the OEM belt receptacle and pretensioner. They didn't fit with my Bride seat so I bought a different pair of Brey-Krause mounts instead.

Hi, I will be taking photos as it progresses, not much happening at the moment :)
I would be interested in first set pictured, as long as you have got 2 pairs, driver and passenger side :)

Just the one pair man, I was only changing the driver side in mine so didn't bother getting a second pair. £110 + PayPal fees, posted if you want them.

Not been much of a progress as yet, however special thanks to Corbeau. Will have pair of seats and 3 point retractable and lockable harness this Thursday.
Took car out for a spin and set a bench mark before performance upgrades. Not too bad, considering there is no way to have a good launch without lighting tyres up. Will be attending Practice day 29th June at Adrian Flux in Kings Lynn (oh God...)

Hi all,
Been some time since last post. Thought I’ll give a small update.
Car had seats fitted, custom seat subframes and offset to centre of steering wheel. Been out once - practice day. I shall upload some images in line with the progress

While waiting for the seats to turns up, sketching subframe mounts. 3mm mild steel.

Seat is in and testing retractable harness...
not working for me, not the way I want them too. Contacted Corbeau, those are going back and awaiting arrival of custom PRO range LUKE range harness.

In the mean time, seat sat way to low.
Second attempt in making subframes. Same offsets but this time 50mm taller.

Nice job, and quit helpful topic for me as well.

I am currently building one for drift, I Have E90, 2009., N54 and till now I have

AFe stage 2 intake upgrade , charge pipe upgrade , catch can , oil cooler mods , welded diff, hydraulic handbrake , sport steering wheel with angle, decat , stainless exhaust pipes 100mm , KW coilovers (adjustable hardness), poly set, aftermarket brake discs

in process is to make additional oil cooler set up with additional cooler and/or fan with switch, because with current testing got error of oil temperature and right away power cut off. Different power steering wheel fluid cooling set up, change ignition coils (from Audi). customized intercooler.
was thinking about about JB4 to put in but decided to go with MHD, as Bolf mentioned for customises adjustment like water cooling.
also fuel pump I think will be changed when reached 400+hp. Short shifter will be needed as well. thinking about cluch as well, have to check out what @e30h26 mentioned about 550i I was more thinking about m3 clutch or performance as they both cost the same.

Also what to do some mod for interior upgrade and body upgrade, like spacer for rims, fender flares, from bumper lip etc any suggestions?

@Aidas - Do You have any contact of that Lithuanian guy?
Did You make central console Yourself? look great.

Have You think to run E85, I now that MHD have mod for that as well (I guess it was mixture of 40%)

some pic from last training
