Budget Rubber ??

Ok firstly this is just a thread to give opinions (everyone is entitled to thier own) and not to blast people about morality of using cheap tyres etc etc...

To my main point, I went through some shrapnel on the motorway which practically shredded my dailys front tyres along with front splitter and who knows what else I am yet to find...but seen as I was hoping to spend my hard earned cash on the drifter and all i do in the daily is plod back and forth to work I am looking for some opinions on budget tyres!

We all know there are some nasty names out there to stay well clear of but also new companies release tyres cheap to build a rep before increasing price (Avon, Falken, Conti for example). The 2 I have lined up atm are Haida and Achilles so I wondered if anyone has any experience with either of them??

The Haida tread pattern looks like it would be better in the coming wet weather but I'm open to suggestions... :worthy:

What is your daily? if it is in anyway sporty, aim for something decent. If it is a 106 1.4 diesel then just put anything on it. Athough I'd still be inclined to spend a bit extra on tyres!

Its a mk4 Golf Tdi does about 80miles a day 70 of them on a motorway so its not doing laps of the nurburg or anything like that...but I know what your talking about hence the thread to see if anyone has knowledge of these brands...there are quite a few reviews on bimmer forums which seem ok just after some first hand experience if any!

the haida`s rumble on the motorway which gets irritating.
i havent tried achilles so i can comment on them.
gerruti tyres are fairly good. but as you are fitting them on the important wheels of your car i would spend a little more and get avons or something.
uniroyals perform well in typical british weather.

I had some Achilles ATR 235/35/19 on a 330ci sport I had over last winter and they did me well. Rain and plenty of snow action, and they gripped well and weren't in any way worrying. Let go nicely as well ;) but doubtless that won't be a requirement of a tdi golf. Great value imo.

hmm if its just for your daily and you say you're pretty much doing motorway journeys Nankang are not that bad for budgets...
I ran budgets on mine front and back for about 3 years and did some track time without any major problems, it was only when i went over 400hp they couldnt handle it. Then i started buying better tyres etc
Yeah so Nankang or Cooper tyres aren't too bad for normal driving use on Golf.
