I like team burst, as do lots of people. I wanted to stick all the related stuff i have bookmarked in one place.

Most of this has been copied and pasted from PSM forum.

By popular demand I'm gonna translate the interview with Team Burst.
burst-2.jpg

"Night Walkers = Takahashi, Night zone = Utsumi, Laugh = Tanaka, etc.. legends who set the standard in team drifting. Now days when alot of people only drift at the race track and competitions, we've forgotten the meaning of Hashiriya.(a person who dedicated his or her life in cars and driving) Driving by your self is cool but there is certain respect in people who drives in team........."
burst-3.jpg

Naoki Nakamura (PS13) , 23 years old who is the team leader of team Burst. Burst Started 5 years ago with only 3 members in Nara touge. Now Burst has 12 members. Every burst members started as rivals, they became friends by battling their local touge. Naoki says"age dont matter, fun thing is always funner with friends"
Engine: TD06H-20g turbo, BNRfuel pump, nismo 550cc injectors, Z32 air flow metor, yashio factory radiator, R gray computer- fuel tuned to the car, 1.2KG boost(400 HP), silk road clutch, kaaz 2way, 4.6 final gear
Suspension: D-Max F;8Kg R;6Kg

R: RE01 (225/45-17) VS-KF (9.5j 17 off-11)
Naoki explains about their car making style as "we want to make cars that every one can recognize, you can have a clean looking car but might all look the same." he also says Burst color became metallic purple/pink because when he first met Akihito Fujio, who is his life long rival as well as friend, another Burst member, he had all pink car originally. after their battle they came to a conclusion that they both respect each other that they wanted to merge two styles together.
burst-4.jpg

Akihito Fujio (PS13). he met Nakamura at age 19, battle him at their local touge. Now he leads the team drifting in the front for Burst. His machine making is 180 degrees opposite from Naoki's S13. Compare to Naoki"s 400Hp 17 VS-KFis, his motor is only putting out 300 HP, with 15's, and 4.1 final gear. Akihito" secret is the combination of 15"s with 4.1 final drive. He says that he can keep up with Naoki, its cheaper, can stay in 2 gear longer where you normally need to be in 3rd, and style of over fenders.
Engine: S15 turbo, BNR32fuel pump, nismo 550cc, Z32 airflow, Power fc(1kg)300hp, unknown LSD, 4.1 final gear.
Suspension: D-Max(F8kg/R6kg)

burst-5.jpg

Takashi Yamamoto (S14 180face) Takashi met team Burst at Nasaka Sports land(race tarack), he was obsessed with going to the track every day, well Akihito from team Burst was there every day too, Takashi thought "what kind of fool goes to the track every weeked?", in realty they were both there every day thinking the same thing. he has been drifting for 5years, he still goes drifting 5 days a week.
Engine:Rx-6 turbo, tomei cams(IN/EX256degrees), BNR32 fuel pump, 550cc injectors, Z32 air flow, Boost1.2kg(400hp), Osclutch, kaaz 2 way, 4.3 final gear.

burst-6.jpg

Hisanori Kurakawa (PS13), he is known as the master welder, he started the trend to tuck the intercooler so when you hit each other you have less chance with troubles. when you tuck your interceder closer to the radiator, your piping is shorter and gives you more response. He has build practically all team Burst's members intercooler set ups and other fabrications. Especially with this reason, he is the key person in this crew.
Engine: TD06-20G turbo, Z32 air flow, HPI intercooler, power FC, Boost 1.2kg, Nismo clutch/ LSD, 4.1 final gear.
Suspension: Silkroad (F10kg, R8kg)

burst-7.jpg

Kenchi Ueshima (S14 s15face), he has the cleanest car in team Burst. He says that his clean car is essential for contrasting the other cars of team Burst. He drives in the 3rd position of team drifting, he has a reputation of consistency. His most proud modification is his front wheel tubing, he says that at any tire angle, his front tires wont hit anything, which helps him to be consistent and not spin out.
Engine: RX-6 turbo, tomei cams(in/ex256 degrees) fully buit head, nismo fuel pump, sard 850cc injectos, Z32 air flow, Power Fc (1.5kg)

Thanks Dutchie san for blowing that article for me..... Im basically gonna translate some of the key points in this interview (since if I translated word for word it would take me for ever)

Fujio Akihito and Naoki Nakamura met at maihan sportsland C course(and local mountain road) at age 18. Maihan sportsland C course was originally created for go carts and mini bikes. This course is known for short and technical by the local motor enthusiasts. Fujio and Nakamura did not team up until age 22 for competitions.

When you ask them about tandom driftting, they both say "Twin dori is pretty simple, you just do it and maybe talk about correction here and there and say "oh that was good one", we don't talk about incentive or anything before we go out"
"we don't really care who leads or follows. Fun either way. we play rock paper scissors to decide who goes first" "Leading takes more guts, following is a little less stressful. Follower can always look forward plus you have sort of a guide line. Your job is to get as close as possible. The technic for leading is to take the non-wasteful line, good line but a little bit wide leaving some space for the follower, so the follower can feel comfortable getting close to you. So there are challenges in both leading and following."

One of the best competitors at Maihon sportsland, Nakamura says "Twin dori and triple are fun and less stressful compare to single run competition." " I get real nervous at single run competition." Last year's all star champion of MSC, Akihito says too that, " I get way too nervous, I just lucked out that day."
Although, they are quick to say. " we don't ever mess up at twin dori!" " we just think about performing for the crowd, we just try to make them happy!"

Fujito and Nakamura are 26 years old now, still pretty young in the drifting society, there goal is now to keep up the "no gap" twin dori and go faster. They've been practicing twin dori with more entry speed. They still say "cars touching each other while drifting is a must" " we both get hyped up when we hear "kon-kon-kotsun!" " we are touching but not crushing. Walking on that fine line is very exciting! You can't do this unless you respect each other."

Last question was what is the fun of drifting. Fujio and Nakamura both said "Team drifting." " single run competition could be fun but I've getting irritated by the nerve racking air that flows by when I'm at the single run comp....." by Nakamura.

PARADE x BURST article

Drift Tengoku, May, 2009. Pg169~175

Tanaka Saimi from PARADE and Nakamura Naoki from BURST are two of the most looked drifters from Kansai(southern part of Japan)area right now. Not only they have been placing in bunch of local drifting contests but ranking high on Msc and D1stree legal. They are team mates when it comes to D1SL because of the same sponsor backing but for MSC and local contests, they are rivals....we decided to take a closer look at both of them and compare their drift cars and their life style.

BURST Nakamura Naoki

girlfriend? i'm married.two kids
First time? when I was 15
First drift? when I was 17, my older friend took me to the mountains in his kei truck. I thought it was "cool"
How many times do you drift in a month? 2~3tmes to the mountains in my silvia,2~3times to the track. I also drift kei truck on dirt for 5~6 times a month.
How much do you spent a month for drifting. $600~$700,thats for gas mostly.
What are you good at when you work on your car. changing Exhaust manifolds. I use to change the exhaust every month and use to take off manifold like at least once a month. I can change the stock exaust manifold on the SR in 40min!
First coverage on Drift heaven magazine? summer of 2005. when you guys did the "shakotan special with a~bo~moon"

What do you think of Tanaka's drifting?
Complete opposite of me, he uses his head. when he is on, he is scary good.

Machine check....
"I like s13, because to me s13 is gangster looking" This chassis is Naoki's third one and even the front end is actually been hit really hard and has another chassis's front end welded and strengthen. Naoki believes that s13's weak point is weakness of an old chassis. Adding roll cage, stitch welding the engine bay, and minor support bars around the fire wall keeps his S13 the way he wants. "One year ago I raised his front end about 1.5cm and found out that the car feels better for my driving style, so when people asks for advice I tell them to create a car that understeers. 10mm toe out in the front, 2º negative camber in the rear."

first drift?when I was 19, in ca18 NA silvia.
How many times do you drift a month? I go to the mountains once a month, 5~6 times a month to the track.
How much do you spend a month for drifting? $800~2000. mostly tires and gas. when I have extra, I save it for D1SL.
what are you good at when you work on your car? I can change the diff in 30 min. I've done it at the track way too many times.

What do you think of Nakamura's drift? I don't like it but he is extremely good! his style looks rough but actually a really define driver. He seem to have a really good reflex.

Machine check....

SMS body...(seimi mawaranai system=seimi never spin system) Seimi believes that his old twisted cracks every where body is good for holding extreme angle while drifting. He says that "since my chases is so old and crashed so many times that every time I jack up the car, the car feels little bit different. so when the car doesn't feel right, I loosen every suspension bolts and retightening them,,this helps a lot. I don't even have roll cage in my car." "I believe that when the chases is weak, it acts like big a rubber band,,, giving you more room for extreme angle etc.." He also says that raising the front of the car by 1cm gave him better feelings. "You basically setting more weight in the back for traction and slide the front end more."

"Von gettin JR arrives at Bihoku high land"
We've heard that the US formulad D driver Mr Von Gettin JR is coming to Bihoku high land to test out the 2010 mustang, we got our camera crew together to meet up with him.

The sound of Supper charged v8 lit up the whole track after JR took his first lap. Nakamura from Team Burst was asking the camera man "are you sure its 2010 mustang?" Haraguchi from 326 power asked "I guess i cant hit him or anything, this car isn't even out yet!" Besides all the worries, Von Gettin Jr laid it down amazingly with Nakamura and haraguchi at the track he hasn't even drifted in. When our staff asked Mr JR, what do you think of this track he answered"I love this course". The fact that he drifted the 2010 mustang close to the wall and drove until it over heated, everyone who watched, loved and admired his drifting spirit.

2010 Mustang spec
Ford racing supercharger(the belt kept snapping since its a single belt for the whole motor)500hp+

"Broken aero sucks, send it back to its place, don't think too much about it , put it together fast" Nakamura from Burst teachs us the "Burst way" of fixing aero kits.

When you think of Nakamura's drifting and his friends, you think aero kits to them is like paper towels, you use it once and throw it a way. But when you talk to them and ask them about aero kits, they all say the opposite, they fix them, sometimes fiber-glass them to achieve the longest life of the aero.

Burst way (Nakamura/Master aero repairer)
-Fix it quick(1 minute is your goal)
-use the trashed aero wisely.(especially the bottom lip, cause there is a lot of flat surface) cut piece of it it and use it as the back support between broken pieces. You wanna use fiber glass piece instead of sheet metal because its softer for cutting and drilling holes, hence easier repair.
-use electric drill and self tapping screw. (nakamura uses self tapping screws to hold the aero to the car, this way is way stronger than zip ties, plus if the aero hits the ground only some portion would brake off not the whole thing)
-use 5 yen as a washer. it gives a good surface area for the screw to stay on. Its probably good luck too.
-fiberglass them from the back when you have nothing to do that weekend(no drift events what so ever), don't paint it. If its together its good to go.
