buying a car with high mileage?

May be going to view a 1996 s14 tomorrow but the problem is...184000 miles, it has "full" service history, 2 owners and is completely stock.

Should i be put off by the high mileage or do these engines last much longer than this?

These engines are alright if they haven't been ragged to death and regularly maintained and not messed about with
The Missus motor had 160k on it now and still going strong and she gives it some shit
Only thing to do is bear in mind that you may have to replace the engine when it does shit itself

A high miler with full service and an easy lift will obviously be in better shape than a low mileage that's had an ebay chip and spent its life being battered off the limiter in Maccy D's carpark. You could always compression test it if concerned about engine wear?

Is it a good deal?

Depends how it's been serviced. Generally with high milage cars it tends to be lots of little things that add up and become a pain in the ass. Theres a lot more to the car than the engine.

Miles mean fuck all to be fair, as esp after that number so much has likely been replaced over the years. Very rarely does condition reflect the miles a cars done, it's more how it's been maintained.

And wouldn't be arsed compression testing it, bearings normally go before rings on a SR20.

More to the point, it's rust and shit that's the expensive fix on a 200SX, not a new engine.

If the price is right for the condition, buy it.

He wants around 1600, its on ebay at the moment. Been told its had some welding done in the past and has been fully undersealed but havent got any information on the service history yet

Be careful with the fully undersealed bit though especially if its freshly applied ask has he pics of the underside before and during the undersealing. If its shultz type undersealing it hides a multitude of sins, plating bad repairs etc. I would still be wanting to see it in the air or at worst up on axle stands for a good root, if he has any issues getting it up in the air then i'd walk.

Mileage wouldn't bother me definitely i'd be buying on overall condition and maintenance

That's about as cheap as S14s go that are actually working. Most of them for a couple grand more don't look much better.

no matter how miles is on ODO the main is what previous owners did with this engine. You can buy a car from woman and think that this car is in very good condition because low miles in ODO but don't forget that almost all women don't look at oil level at all

millage doesnt normally bother me much as long as its looked after.

my e36 touring has done over 200k and still goes the job! had a fair good spanking at drift days and inbetween and runs spot on.

i just make sure i look after the engine and it should be good for loads more!
