buying engines

I'm after either an sr20det or a ca18det (undecided yet) to go into my capri and I'm having abit of a hard time finding engines. There are a few on ebay but thats pretty much all I can find.
Where does everyone go if the need a new sr or ca? Do you just buy a donor car or is there something I'm missing?
Cheers

Sxoc in the breaker section but they do go quicker these days.

Try to see it run.

Id learn towards the Sr tend to be a bit tougher but mainly as upgrade parts are easier and cheaper to come by.

Not tempted to stick a V8 in?

Not tempted to stick a V8 in?

Ofcorse I'm tempted :p but i want to go back to using my capri as a daily and I drive pretty far for work so would end up just costing too much in petrol :(

But cheers for the advice I remember hearing one of them was abit of a stronger engine but couldn't remember which.
Guess I'll just have to keep my eyes peeled for the right engine. And Tiz cheers for the heads up I'll give them a try :)

I've got a 300bhp turbo charged 3sge altezza engine for sale. Comes with everything, hks management, grands worth of clutch etc..

Do it , 3sge+T is way tougher than an SR20

I have all the wiring info somewhere if you need it.

300hp is too much for what I'm after really, plus the price is nowhere near my budget. Ideally I'm only looking for around the 200hp mark as I can't drift that well so don't want to go straight from an mx5 I'm learning in to a 300+hp car. That is if I even decide to drift my capri

Fair one. I'm open to offers of course.

Your not going to be looking at much less for an sr conversion. And there is never such thing as too much power! If there is its a lot more than 300bhp

Unless your going to sell it to me for £100 then it'll still be a no I would of thought :p
Oh really? Just from the few I've seen it looked like you could pick them up for sub a grand or do you expect them to be fucked in every way possible?

When I eventually get round to it, I will be sticking a SR in my 100e. But that's only because SR's are more durable compared to CA's. The ones you generally see on eBay are sub 100k and have been sat for a year. So even if you where to consider buying one off eBay a full rebuild would be the best thing too do.

If I had the budget I think the 3SGE+T would be my go to engine though.

Luckily that's my plan anyway, I would want to buy an engine dump it in my car only to find its fucked. But to be honest I'm hoping to find an engine, rebuild it and chuck it in some time towards the end of the year/next winter just so that I'm not rushing everything and have time to upgrade other aspects of my car as the year goes on :)

im currently doing a capri build as well(my brothers) but we are keeping the 2.0 laser engine. you could do a zetec turbo that way its still using a ford unit and therefore the resale value will be higher than putting a nissan engine in there. and a lot cheaper

Zetec has crossed my mind as like you say it keeps it ford, and I know most of the parts needed for the swap you can get off the shelf and I can always turbo it later down the line. I'm not too fussed about resale though as I never intend to sell it

Well looks like my options are going to stay being either sr20 or turbo zetec. I'm gunna have a great time trying to make my mind up

If your budgets that low you might struggle getting a Sr20 as recently the prices have really gone up i guess it's due to less s14s

I havnt actually got a budget at the minute as ive been saving for a holiday in America, but once I come back I'm hopefully going to be around the 1000 mark for everything I'll need :)

My Capri is part through a ca swap, I paid £365 for engine box fmic loom and stage 1 ecu with t28. Though the 28 needs rebuild. But thats not the only thing. I then changed the brakes, 2.8 lsd axle, need to get some speed hut gauges to suit (only to Match the gps speedo I will use). The swap is becoming a resto though as
I've just taken carpet out to do a few repairs. I don't like to think what I've spent so far. Every small fuse box, crimp and relay you use will all add up.
