BWM E30 325E so sad :(

I'm a beginner drifter and purchased a 325e. I drove a 325i and it was 1 million times faster. It seemed to spin its wheels so easily and I felt like the king of the world. Anyways I am interested in swapping the 325e for the 325i motor but am interested in knowing if the 325i motor is enough for doing actual drifting on tracks. I felt like it could drift with no problem at all and was really exciting.

My budget for starting is around 1000 spanks USD.
I have access to a lot of scrap yards with engines for around 150 bucks.
I have never done an engine swap but I am a very resourceful and determined person.
The most I've done with a car is oil change, starter change, wiring harness lit on fire and I rewired a van.

Worried about if I really get into drifting will needing the turbo be very necessary?

My choices are
  1. Turbo the 325e
  2. Switch the head to 325i to make the stroker and then turbo
  3. Just swap the 325i
  4. Sell the e get a different ride
  5. Maybe there are better options?

Thanks you!!
Sean

Nah you don't need a turbo, I personally wouldn't bother with the swap? What's the power difference.? Maybe yours is just broken..?

The 325e has the 2.7L Motor
1982–1986 325e - 2.7 L M20B27 I6, 122 PS (90 kW; 120 hp)
1984–1990 325i - 2.5 L M20B25 I6, 170 PS (125 kW; 168 hp)

The difference seems to be around 48 hp and 35 kw
Like I said I'm not a car expert but 48 hp seems to be a bit of a difference.
Another thing is the 325e only revs to 4500 and will cut out. I think this is one of the biggest problems because once the wheels start spinning the engine will cut out if you let it get even close to 4500.

The 325i seems to be a freaking beast but with this 325e I think I could lose a race to a civic :(

Sell the 325e, buy a 325i... Even a chip only adds 20hp and raises the rev limit to 5500.. The 325e also has a longer ratio diff for fuel economy..

He could do a head swap from a m20b25 (885) that will lower the compression to 8:1, use the wiring harness off an e30 325i that will get his revs up. Then turbo the now lowered compression m20b27 stroker and make huge power.

loom swap.
head swap.
miller war chip.

speak to the boys at VAC motorsport there your side of the pond, they know there shit!
