Cage advice please

Hey hope I've posted in the right place, I'm building a BCD car on a budget and was wondering if I can compete with a bolt in cage rather than a weld in as bolt it is cheaper? Thanks

why do so many people build comp cars with top money spent on spec's yet skimp on there "own" safety....

if your budget, spend less on power mods and spend the extra cash on a "good" cage,,,, like a nickson motorsport one ;)

Just go with a bolt in cage, I have one and cant see why they are less safe than I weld in.
I talked to Nickson motorsport before fitting mine and he advised to use a bolt in as its easier to swap between cars, if they werent as safe im sure he would of said something.

You can always add extra bars in as long as you do some research and fit them in the correct place.

Ok.. I have strong beliefs when it comes to cages in drift cars...

My theory is something like this.. Get a good quaility bolt in... Mine is made by Nickson Motorsport, it has hench platforms built and welded to the car, the cage bolts to them.. It's as simple as it can be but is up to BDC spec.. 6 point with door bars..

Reasons for this.. In my opinion, drift cars get crashed and written off, it's often easier to just get a new shell, with IS200's it's cheap enough to do this.. With my bolt in cage, I can bring it from one car to the next.. If I bend a bit, Nick will make me a new one..

Also, Japanese drifters theory says a looser chassis is better for letting the car find grip.. To much rigidity is not a good thing..

And, more eliberare cages cost more money.. And weigh more..

Not many drifters are drifting over 120mph, I expect the fasted speeds of any of the BDC circuits will be 80-100mph, drift cars dont need mental cages like rally cars etc.

But you do need a good quality cage.. Mine is double ard bastard, can tell by tapping it that it's a good gauge of steel, there's too many cages out there that look ok, but made of thin tube with pony brackets..

Thanks for the good info man, I've been in contact with nickson Motorsport and had a good chat about it the other day, nice guy too and give me some good advice
