Camber, Castor, Toe, etc angles

Jason

Nurse?
For all those who have had their cars aligned, what angles etc did you go for and why??

Thanks

Jason :)

I asked this a while back and had mine setup as a bit of a compromise ebtween road and track... I kept the castor std, camber set to 1.7 Front, 0.9 L Rear, 1.1 R Rear. ) Zero Toe at front and rear....

After speaking to a few more people, Id probably like to go a bit more camber on the front (say 2.3 deg), and maybe 1.1 on the rear (both sides)...
Talking to Brett, he suggested getting the front set up for Track, then the rear as stiff as poss and as neutral as poss... but the Opt boys are always trying different stuff and no two cars were set up the same last year...:)

in mine i run

front camber 3*00
rear camber 2*00 (could go less, killing tyres badly)
front toe 0*00
rear toe 0*00
front caster 8*00

2.5-3 deg neg camber on the front and about 1deg neg camber on the back seems to be pretty good :)

You should pull your caster angles forward ideally. 7 to 9 degree's on S13's, i presume similar on S14. 9 is rather extreme however, steering will return to central very quickly and steering will be a bit heavier. 7 is probably a good amount to run by all accounts.

Adding more caster gives you a slightly longer wheel base, and more dynamic camber aswell i believe. I think it will also affect the way the tyre interacts with the road due to the increased angle of the front strut... But it just confuses me :wack:

Ive got 7 F castor, 2.5 F camber, 0 F toe, 1.5 R camber, fuck knows what R toe.:wack: Seems alright, it wears the rears evenly which is handy.:)

Does anyone run any toe out?? seems that the norm is 0 toe..
castor angle - doesnt this have something to do with grip into and out of a corner?? i just set mine up so the wheel was in the center of the arch.. when i finally get round to getting the alignment done ill have to see what it is at teh mo and take it from there...

Castor has alot to do with the feel of the car. Too much castor will end up in you having a wrestling match with the car as the wheel will be too heavy. However it does mean the wheel will centre quicker (good for transitioning i suppose).

As for toe i would have thought a small amount of toe out on the rear would be good to get the rear sliding, too much thou would make it impossible to control i would have thought.

what i have now feels very good, it will be alot differant with the he's :) will take some getting used to, i dont know if what i run now is right or what some of it means, i just know if does the job and goes well sideways :)
