Chaser family cruser

Hi guys, new here. Have been rolling hondas all my life hence no activity here from my side ;)
Looking for advise... I have 7 weeks old boy and I want him to be a car nut some day. I know it is way too early but this is just excuse for me to get a toy lol
Money is tight this days so I want honest opinions. My daily is 2008 Saab 9-3 Aero TTiD auto estate which is bit boring to be fair. I almost fell a sleep driving it to work.

I do 140miles motorway trip 3 times a week but this is covered by company (£30 fuel money).

Question - is Chaser jzx100 good swap to accomodate my life in it? Small family + dog.

I do one year trip to Poland so 4k miles in 3 weeks.

What is mpg, relability and costs of running it ? Easy to get parts? Boot size? Can I install roof rack for extra storage?

Many thanks for help

Peter

Are you talking modded or as a standard car? I use my jzx100 as a daily and its my family car and drift car blah blah. Its pretty shit on fuel now. And i only do a 25 mile round trip to work and back. Id suggest keeping the saab and maybe get a chaser as a 2nd car or just as a toy. That way you wont break the bank every time you drive it..

Also. From experience.. having it as a daily is a headache when things like the alternator go wrong. Parts availability isnt very good in emergencys as i found out when my alternatir died on wednesday. I ended up finding a 2jz n/a alternator an hour away from my work. Nicked the apprentices car. Got it. Went to fit it and its different in many small ways so i couldnt use it..

However. I stripped them both down and built my broken one up with parts from the 2jz unit. Its working and all ok now but that was near enough a whole days work. Trying to find parts etc.

So be warned in cases like that

Yeh would agree with that. They are cheap to drive.. if your always off boost, and drive super canny. However as soon as you nail it, fuels gone.
LOADS of room though.

As said, Iv had a few moments when somethings gone wrong; and I havent been able to fix it due to lack of parts. One time we had to go to a scrap yard and take a 2JZ NA to bits to get what I needed for my 1JZ VVTi.

In my advice.. a great daily, if money is no object.

If money is tight, I wouldnt even consider a JZX100 lol!

I have one as a daily but my commute is short AF and im not running many mods really. Dogs would have to go on the back seat obviously, so not really ideal for that.

Thanks guys. I would love few performance mods but nice comfortable ride is a plus... I would have to sell Saab or swap for jzx100 as cant afford 2 cars. No parking space with my house so i am paying parking permits then insurance,tax... I sold my 1991 da6 teg because of that. Will have to wait i guess until my son is older but then cars will be more expensive as they increase in value. Was thinking about R34 front Stagea for a min as well.

I just miss my jdm life ;-) One day...

I work on them quite a bit and apart from the odd VVTi system going tits up due to low oil or a blocked VVTi filter which is easily sorted and the coilpack/leads breaking down they are very reliable!
the autos are better on fuel then the manuals I would say but like Mint has said if you pottle around off boost they are fairly decent on fuel.
You can get a German Shepard in the back (I have a JZX90 and they are slightly smaller then the 100's) so the space is ok.

As far as parts go, I can supply pretty much everything but sometimes there is a wait for the genuine Toyota stuff but the longest I have had to wait is 10 days and that was for a door handle surround of all things.

You can get an R34 GT NA 4dr for 2.5k landed these days, very cheap cars and pretty practical. RB parts will be slightly easier to get hold of, though I dunno how much interchangeability there is between the NEO and usual RBs. Anything turbo whether it's an RB or JZ is going to take a comfortable backup fund / car to daily and do big miles without worry.

They have the potential to be great dailys but it's the rarity and availability of parts that make them a challenge.
I wouldn't want to rely on mine to move me around all the time
