Chinese invasion

Anyone noticed the dozens on random Chinese threads that appear overnight? Can you put something in place to stop newly registered users from posting so soon after registering their account, or post limit before they can post in the for sale section?

@Starkey

When they started doing it a while ago I thought they were just doing it so that they could get the required post number to sell items, I saw one thing listed for sale by them but shortly after it all got taken down. I still have no idea why they've chosen this site, very few people outside this community even know about it.

It is not Driftworks they are targeting, it will be the software the forum runs and a security flaw within that software most likely. I assume there will probably be a patch released to solve the issue, it will be then up to the administrators to implement the fix.

Its pretty annoying, but hopefully we've managed to stop it.

We'll keep an eye on it in the future but i for one welcome our future Chinese / Korean / Russian overlords!

it's a balance between stopping real posts and blocking the spam. There's a load of protection in to stop bots, and we're continually tweaking it, but in this case it looks like it's being kicked off manually to try and get round post count restrictions, then handing the account over to the army of robots :(
We had them blocked for about a week but they're back.... I'll see what we can do.

For those that don't know, click on their profile and click "Ignore", refresh the browser and like a fart in the breeze all their posts are gone
