typical just start sorting the car, in a convoy of 50 scooby's with lotus elise police escort for children in need everyone looking at the car and crack my clutch pedal goes right down with about 3mm movement between on and off, stall lurch forward, street lined with people and i look like i cant drive for toffee!!!

the pedal seems really loose any ideas on what it could be?
any help moocho appreciated

Slave or master cylinder perhaps?
When my SX slave cylinder went the peddle hit the floor, it was a small part inside it that was leaking.

could you still drive it and change gear, its weird because the pedal moves side to side a bit as well and when it went i heard a crack come from the pedal area :(

My experience with those cylinders is that when it goes you can do fduk all, after a period of time pressure comes back and you can change gear fora while. Yours sounds more mechanical (snapped or bent) rather than a pressure problem.

Check the pedal box for breaks. A guy I know had his clutch mech snap on his GTiR recently, had the same symptoms.

cheers for all the advise
i might call the rac from work tommorrow
hopefully they can shed some light
:worthy: please let it be cheap to fix

its the clutch pedal box, apparently the spot rivets holding it have popped, just need to find a friendly welder that doesnt mind lying on his back in a 1 foot hole welding upside down up behind the dash, failing that its a whole dash out nightmare which i dont want

well chuffed a local garage that fixed my bumper, picked up my car from work, took off the pedal box welded (and strengthened) it and then brought the car back all for £30.
result
time to get out and test it!
