Complete rookie

Hi guys! I have just bought a 1.8 mk2 mx5 (open diff) and I have never drifted a rear wheel drive car before, done 4 wheel drive skids in the snow but nothing like drifting before.

I'm looking for any helpful info on what I need and basically how to go about it. Currently the mx5 is completely stock and it will happily spin 1 back wheel but it doesn't slide yet (i know I need a welded diff or LSD).

I'm more into the air ride and nice wheels VW scene so I apologise if I seem a complete numpty

To help you along basics in order of importance are welded/LSD, maintenance and bucket seat. Then coilovers, good front tyres and lock spacers.

Cheers man thanks alot! That's what I'm doing at the minute just reading loads of threads about Mx5s to see what people have done and like you say the main things seem to be coilovers and a welded diff and just getting out there

Welcome! I drift a 1.8 mk1 mx-5 with a torsen No regrets on the torsen, but if you're just going to drift it you can get it welded for cheaper.

More importantly though, what BenRice said, make sure it's well sorted before you break stuff.

Other than that. stiffer suspension is very important if you're still on stock springs.

I'd say don't go crazy on all the mods next in line before you get to rip it.
