Converting a Toyota chaser 1jz to manual

I know its probably been covered before but here it goes!

Im looking to convert my 1998 Toyota Chaser from Auto to Manual.

The car is standard apart from a cat back exhaust.

My questions are what parts are required and what is the best(but most economical) gearbox to go for? Ive seen some R154 gearboxes go for silly money! Its a road going car that doesn't see much if any thrashing!

Any help appreciated

Box - R154 or W58
jz bellhousing
gearbox cross member mount
gearstick
prop
clutch master, slave & line
clutch pedal / brake pedal. JZX90 fits.
clutch+flywheel

Are there any Traders or even better-a forum member that can supply me with all of the above? What about the gearstick surround-Does it need to be changed?

Yes. It depends how intensive you want the swap?

The Auto ECU can be reused, the gearstick surround for the auto has the TRC/SNOW buttons in the wrong place comapred to the manual, so you will need that along with the manual speedo cluster.

Check out JZXworld.com for your info mate.

Yep, did this to my old chaser, auto ECU works fine. Best bet is to bridge the pins in the trans plug to trick the ECU into thinking it's in 2nd. Loads of info on JZX world.

Do you not have to cut part of the floor or is that just on Supras? I know Toyotas can be a pain.

Worth noting that your looking at between £1500 to £2000 to do it right from my research.

I did a manual conversion on a jzx100 Markll few weeks ago.. Got it done in a day.. Had all the parts from a manual so was easy enough, often you need to wait for things like prop to be made etc.. I keep a few custom braided clutch lines on the shelf as conversions never come with it.. Oem Flywheel bolts are stretch bolts and not to be reused so I also keep a few sets of ARP flywheel bolts as they are better and cheaper than Toyota ones.

there're 2 lengths of R154 and W58 when measuring from bell housing to shifter. If u get the shorter ones u'll have to make a shifter extension to get it to line up with the shifter hole of the body. I created an extension for my "short" R154 in my supra. I believe it may be similar for the jzx chassis

Tunnel is pretty much the same, you need to trim a bit at the top for the shifter.
I also make remote shifters to any length so you can use a Non remote shifter version of the r154. You'll struggle to find a jzx/jzz box that has the factory remote shifter, and if you do, it'll want new shifter carrier bushes before you fit it.
